customer had previously got it cleaned somewhere else but it was blocked again after a month.

Checked the codes. Only got codes blocked dpf and unable to regen due to conditions not being met. (High soot content)

Thought maybe it was because of driving habits, but customer takes it on the dual track at 70mph and the motorway at least once a week.

So maybe it wasnt fully cleaned the first time.

On idle dpf pressure was at over 30mbar
On 3k rev it was at over 300mbar
The dpf was 96%filled with soot.

After the dpf clean. We did a dynamic regen, had to take it for a continuous drive to burn off the soot and blow out the cleaning fluid.

It took half hour of driving to get the soot level to 2g and confirm a clean dpf.

Reset all parameters and hopefully this time it lasts longer than one month!!

Customer enquired about getting their dpf cleaned as a warning had come up on their vehicle for blocked dpf.

We always run a diagnostic check first.

Codes came for ambient air temperature sensor and also for turbo underboost performance.

While many people dont realise, when the ambient air temperature is faulty, a car wont do a regen because the ecu is confused with the outside temperature as it needs a specific range to work in, it will prevent any regens to stop potential thermal damage.
This will cause the dpf to block up as there are no regens being done.

But a lot of people will ignore that ambient temperature fault thinking its totally unrelated.

For the turbo underboost we did a smoke test to make sure no air leaks. There was none.
That specific code also comes up if the MAP sensor on intake manifold is clogged up with soot.
We took the MAP sensor off and found the culprit. Totally caked in soot so the sensor was not able to read the data causing the underboost issue.

Cleaned the map sensor. Replaced the ambient air temperature (unfortunately took no pics of that) and did a dpf clean.

Was one of the most blocked we have seen. (The picture shows how black the foam was with soot. Also before we get comments on look at it all over the floor, we rinsed it off with water, and it was on the customers property and she didnt mind.
Once all the black smoke had gone down, we did a static regen to make sure the car would be able to complete future regens. It completed it and all the values were where they should be.

We recommended the customer get a carbon clean for the intake manifold in the near future.

Now the car no longer runs sluggish and no dpf warning. All good.

And it was a tiny little ambient temperature sensor that had caused all this.

customer came to us with an issue.
Oil leak.
On inspection. Not just an oil leak. There was no oil at all left. And also no coolant!
Surprised the engine hadn't blown.

Found an oil leak from the rocker cover gasket.
But the main culprit was the oil cooler. It was leaking both oil and coolant.

Replaced the rocker cover gasket.
The oil cooler.
Filled up with fresh oil and a new oil filter.

Ran the engine. No more leaks.
Pressure tested the coolant to make sure there was no leaks for that too.

Customer came with a blocked dpf.
Checked the codes which confirmed that.
Checked to make sure the sensors were reading fine.

Reading the data on the toyota seemed to be a bit harder for our diagnostic tool but we were able to find the information we needed.

Got it cleaned then took it for a dynamic regen.
The vehicle wouldn't start it as the exhaust temperature wasn't getting hot enough.

After some investigation, we found out that the ecu had locked the dpf as being blocked and wouldn't let us clear the codes to try and get it to regen after the clean.

Found a way around that, got the ecu to acknowledge the dpf was no longer blocked.

Codes cleared. And car drives fine now.

However... spanner symbol... needs a service.
If oil is deteriorated the car will not do a regen.

So if you own a diesel car please dont keep driving with the service light on as the car will.not do its own regen and then you end up with a blocked dpf.

Booked the customer in for a service later on next week and that should be his car all good now.
