So that’s my first year completed as a driving instructor, after leaving a 30 year football coaching career behind me
The early weeks were full of worry as to whether I’d be good enough at 55 years old to go out into a brand new career, go self-employed & of course the financial worries that come with that move
12 months on I’ve had 53 learners achieve passes - sure, many of these were mainly taught by parents or other instructors & I just helped them prepare for their tests.
I take most pleasure in those who’d never sat behind a wheel before their first lesson going on to pass, especially those who did it 1st time or who did so without making any driving faults
Most refreshing of all is that I’ve enjoyed sitting with learners of different ages, from background / countries & who have had all sorts of interests, some of which I knew nothing about, so I’ve expanded my knowledge at the same time
All in all, a long, demanding but also enjoyable first year
