As the weather gets better, we wanted to share a really important FLOAT TO LIVE message.

Did you know that there were 226 deaths in the UK from accidental drownings in 2022, across inland and coastal locations. Of the people who died 40% had no intention of entering the water, such as those walking, with causes including slips, trips and falls, being cut off by the tide, or swept in by waves.

And our RNLI Water Safety Survey from April this year reveals that 32% of people in the UK still do not know what to do if they unexpectedly get into difficulty in the water.

If you find yourself in difficulty in the water:

1) Tilt your head back with your ears submerged

2) Relax and try to control your breathing

3) Use your hands to help you stay afloat

4) It's OK if your legs sink, we all float differently

Only once your breathing is under control and you’re floating should you call for help or swim to safety if you feel able.

If you get into difficulty or spot someone else in trouble in water…

UK on the coast: call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

UK inland: call 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service.

Please take a minute to read this and parents please share with your children so they know what to do.

Friends of the ferry, we need your help!

Despite our best efforts, members of the public are still continuing to smoke on the pier.

Whilst we understand smoking has previously been permitted and we understand this is classed as outdoors, we cannot stress enough…The pier is wooden and is Grade 2 listed.

During this freak weather there has already been two small fires on the pier and we simply cannot take any risks.

Please share far and wide that NO SMOKING is permitted on the pier, train or ferry ⛴
