Had a bit of a jaunt on this job. I'm based in the Southampton area but was asked if I could do a clutch for a guy who had just done a job at a friend's house. Not a problem...."Oh, it's in Southbourne " I aim to please and off I trekked. However, my main van had broken down the day before and luckily I have a spare smaller van. I loaded everything you think you might need for the job but as any mobile mechanic knows, it seldom goes the way you expect π. Box out, clutch off and flywheel, with those silly shallow internal torx bolts, 3 decided to round off. No problem, I will just drill off heads. Left my box of drills at home - 40 miles away!! A quick trip to B&Q and Halfords. Once back, proceeded to try to drill off heads. Pilot holes good but first couple of spins with drill on the larger side, damaged the drill. I know, I will cut out centre. Job done. Next, luckily I had packed a chisel and after quite a few hits, managed to loosen all bolts. Off with the flywheel, on with the new and new clutch back in. All back together and test driven for the customer. I'll even hold my hands up and say that I broke the vacuum pipe to the brake servo which meant I had to come back the following day to finish off.
This post isn't about how bad this makes me look π, it's about making sure the job is done and back with customer π
