Wow, what a week, one with plenty hidden lessons. We visited all our top car picks last week and the bad news is............ we are not prepared to recommend any of them to our customer. All of them had accident damage that was being covered up.

When we looked at the MOT history and compared it to the car, a simple statement like Right front headlight shining high on a failed MOT inspection 2 years ago led to us fully examining that area of the car.

All of them had repaired damage that was not declared. This is a first for us, we have never struck out before. Thank goodness for our stringent detailed examination list and inspection process. We have spoken to the customer and we have agreed to extend the search radius by another 10 miles. The search resumes, we will find them a car that meets their criteria.

Two Cars were sold before we could validate them, leaving 9 cars in the running. Six have 1.6L motors, two have 1,3L motors and one is a 1.4L engine. All of the cars have manual gearboxes. We had a range of colours in the cars, namely red, white, cream, silver and black. How important is the colour of the car for you?We have asked the customer to tell us which colour they do not want. We will be searching for the best car that we can find, within specific categories. This week we look for for a diesel car, within 20 miles of our location, that has a consumption of more than 60mpg. That equates to less than 4.0 l/100km. It should also have less than 100,00 miles on the clock and cost less than £3,500. This week we have 11 cars to choose from. After our first pass we have a choice of Vauxhall, Fiat, Citroen and Peugot. Which car would we recommend to our customer? Stay tuned for daily updates.

In the UK traffic is controlled by roundabouts, as a newcomer this takes a bit of getting used to, especially when you encounter your first roundabout with a traffic light. The rule of the road is strictly give way to vehicles on your right, regardless of circle size. The simple illustration shows how to approach a circle when going straight or turning either way. When driving in the UK, you will encounter multiple speed limits between towns and on the dual carriageways. Thankfully, most cars come with traffic signal recognition and will display the speed limit sign on your dashboard as it encounters a change. On single lanes we generally see speed limits of 30, 40, 50 and 60 MPH. on the Dual carriageway it is generally 70 MPH, with speed slowing down as you approach circles and towns. The speed limit is strictly enforced in the UK. How does knowing you can never exceed 70 MPH change your car buying decision?

To Bring or not to bring, that is the question, many people ask us if they can import their South African cars. The answer is, yes you can, however, unless it is a collectible exotic car we simply do not advise it. The cost, the logistics, the vehicle testing requirements make it prohibitive. It will also always be branded as an import vehicle and that carries a lot of negative connotations in the UK market when it comes to resell and licensing.
