Cost-effective, simple vehicles engineered to excel at a single, focused task.

Royal Mail has added 20 micro electric vans to its fleet, aimed at urban rounds where a full sized van struggles.

The Neomor D01 is a compact vehicle built for narrow streets and tight parking, and it charges from a standard three pin plug.

That last detail matters more than it sounds. It means no specialist charging kit is needed, which gets round the problem at delivery offices with limited yard space or not enough grid capacity to support more chargers.

Despite the size, Royal Mail says it will cover a full round, with a payload of up to 290kg and a 2.5 cubic metre load space.

The vans come from JLC EV, which supplies and supports them from its base in Sussex.

Mark Riley, delivery design manager at Royal Mail, said: "These micro electric vehicles are perfectly suited to busy urban routes, helping our posties navigate towns and cities more efficiently while reducing emissions."

The announcement lands days after Royal Mail put its 9,000th electric van on the road. The company is aiming for a fully zero emission final mile fleet by 2035 and net zero by 2040.
