Today marks 3 years since I qualified as an ADI. It’s been an incredible journey so far, filled with challenges, progress, and plenty of proud moments watching learners grow in confidence and achieve their goals.

I feel very fortunate to say I genuinely love what I do, helping people gain a skill for life and become safe, independent drivers is something I never take for granted. Here’s to continuing the journey

Most people get this completely wrong about neurodiverse learners…

They assume it’s harder for them to learn to drive.

It isn’t harder. It’s different.

If you’re neurodiverse and thinking about learning to drive, this is for you.

Including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. You are absolutely capable of becoming a confident driver.

You might not pick everything up all at once like a neurotypical learner.
You might need more time to process what’s happening around you.
You might prefer to focus on one thing at a time instead of juggling everything together.

At the start, that can feel frustrating.

Steering, gears, mirrors, positioning, decisions, it can feel like too much all at once.

But that doesn’t mean you’re behind.

It means you’re building it properly.

What looks like “slow progress” is often someone laying solid foundations.

And here’s what people don’t see…

When it clicks, it sticks.

Many neurodiverse learners go on to become:
• Very methodical
• Strong with routines
• Focused on doing things properly
• Consistent and safe drivers

Learning to drive isn’t a race. There’s no “right” speed.

With the right approach, breaking things down, reducing pressure, and building step by step, you can absolutely do this.

It’s not about rushing a test.
It’s about becoming a safe, confident driver for life.

And plenty of neurodiverse learners prove that every single day.
