Junior Tyrone Race Report
Fulbeck 24th & 25th of February

Three heat wins from three meant George Townsend lined up on pole position for the final with Jack Simson alongside. Harvey Williams lined up third with Aston, Gale and Sayers, Crocker and Gibson following behind. Townsend got off to a good start and lead the race in the early stages with Stimson and Williams behind. Sam Aston held his fourth place with Archie Gale and Ryan Sayers hot on his heals. The top three began to break away and on lap 5, Jack Stimson took the lead of the race. Ryan Sayers also made his way up through the field and sat in fourth place at the start of the last lap. Stimson, Townsend and Williams started the last lap just 0.3 seconds apart. Williams was looking to get up to second place and went for an overtake into the second chicane. Williams and Townsend made contact which caused both drivers to not finish the race. Jack Stimson held his position and took a very well deserved first win in Tyro. Ryan Sayers’s overtakes in the early phase of the race meant he was in prime position to capitalize on the last lap and finished in great second place with Sam Aston rounding off the podium. Archie Gale crossed the line fourth, a great start to his 2024 season. Oliver Gibson was involved in a accident on Saturday’s practice and therefore had to race with a bend chassis. He didn’t let this hamper his progress and finished in a strong fifth. Lewis Crocker started his 2024 campaign off by beat his personal best time at Fulbeck and finishing in sixth. George Townsend showed what a true professional he is after the accident. Both drivers shock hands and set a fantastic example for all young drivers.

We now have a month away from the racetrack and we will return to Fulbeck at the end of March for the third round of the winter championship.

Fulbeck 24th & 25th of February Mini Tyro Race Report

The second round of the Tyro Winter Championship bought us to Fulbeck Kart Club. A typically cold but dry February weekend saw new Mini Tyro driver Tom Mayo have his race weekend debut and last lap drama in Junior Tyro.

Two heat wins and a second place meant Jacob Aston lined up on pole position for the final with Matas Minikas starting alongside after winning the first heat, followed by good results in both heat two and three. Jack Griggs continued to impress and started the final in third place. Liam Stimson suffered a mechanical failure on the dummy grid and was unable to make the start of the final, but he improved his lap times throughout the weekend and got within 0.8 seconds of the front three during the third heat in only his second race. Tom Mayo made his race weekend debut on Saturday, in preparation for his first full race weekend.

Jacob Aston was able to break away from the pack during the opening laps with Minikas and Giggs in second and third. Griggs stayed on Minikas’s rear bumper for the whole race but couldn’t find a way past. Chris Mayo continued his progress from Whilton Mill and met his target of completing a lap in under a minute with a 59.1. Following Jacob Aston’s strong start, he continued to build his lead and took his second lights to flag victory in 2024. Matas Minikas finished in second place and Jack Griggs finished just behind in third.

Whilton Mill 11th February Race Report

Junior Tyro

Junior Tyro always brings close racing and this weekend was no different. The reigning champion from 2023 George Townsend, returns in 2024 looking to go for back to back championships. New comers into Junior Tyro include the 2023 Mini Tyro Champion Oliver Gibson, Jack Stimson and Maddox Chan. A new year brings new contenders, Danny Hall, Ryan Sayers, Harvey Williams and Jacob Aston started racing in Tyro last year and have made major progress over the winter.
Two heat wins meant Harvey Williams lined up on pole for the final, George Townsend started the final second despite having a DNF due to a technical flag during one of the heats. Jack Stimson started third with Oliver Gibson starting alongside in forth and Ryan Sayers starting behind in fifth. Townsend made the perfect start and took the lead on lap one. Daniel Parsons also made an excellent start, moving from sixth on the grid up to third and Danny Hall also made places on the first lap moving from ninth to fifth.
A five kart battle for fifth place lasted all race long. Gibson made up four places on lap 8 to make his way back up the order and he managed to hold off the back behind to finish in fifth. A great start to his new journey in Junior tyro. The top four broke away into two packs of two. Parsons and Stimson were together for most of the race. Stimson made his move on lap 6 and held that position to end the race, finishing on the podium.
Townsend and Williams broke away from the rest of the field. They exchanged the lead four times throughout the race but on lap 8, Williams made the move on Townsend into Christmas and held on for the remaining five laps to take his first race win in Tyro.
A fantastic start to 2024 for everyone involved. Now onto Fulbeck for the second round of the championship at the end of February.

Whilton Mill 11th February Race Report

Mini Tyro

The first round of the 2024 Tyro championship took us to Whilton Mill racing with UK Kart Series. It was the first race in Tyro for many drivers and the first race in Junior for Oliver Gibson and Maddox Chan after moving up from Mini Tyro in 2023.
Mini Tyro has started it’s 12 year of running and continues to display some of the closet racing in karting. During heat 2, three karts were separated by 0.08 seconds across the line! After three strong heats, Jacob Aston lined up pole position for the final with Sam Skellett alongside. Minikas, Flatley, Griggs and Burling followed who all had top 4 finishes in one of the heats. Further down the grid was Liam Stimson and Chris Mayo who both showed brilliant progress throughout the heats in their first race in Tyro.
At the start of the final, Jacob Aston managed to break away from the pack and begin to open up a strong lead with Sam Skellett holding his second place. Max Flatley made his way into third position with the rest of the pack close behind. As the race progressed, Jacob Aston was able to continue building his lead and Sam Skellett also cemented his position in second, pulling away from the chasing pack. Hayden Buring was withing a couple of kart lengths of Max Flatley in third place for the whole race. On lap 8 of the race, the rain started to fall causing multiple spinners which forced the officials to red flag the race with two minutes to go meaning the race would not be restarted. This meant Jacob Aston took his first win in Tyro with Sam Skellett finishing second in his last race in Mini Tyro before he moves up to Junior Tyro for our next round. Max Flatley rounded off the podium with a great result at his home circuit.
