After having a lot of messages recently asking about the Seatbelt and Mobile phone camera on the M8 such as “is it really live?” — currently fines are not being given as it’s part of the largest survey of its kind ever undertaken in the UK.

The cameras are monitoring driver behaviour at twelve sites across Scotland over the next few months.

Acusensus is the company behind the AI camera technology. The system works by AI identifying a possible offence. Images taken where no offence is detected are deleted almost immediately, while images showing potential offences are then checked and verified by at least two trained human reviewers.

Please be aware that on Monday 11 May:

🚌 A westbound bus gate will go live at the Ingram Street/Queen Street junction. Operating 7 days a week (7am–7pm) the new bus gate will allow only authorised vehicles (buses, taxis, cycles and commercial vehicles) to turn right from Ingram Street onto Queen Street.

🚧 To support the next phase of construction work at George Square, the road between Cochrane Street and Queen Street will temporarily close to all vehicles from 6am. Pedestrian access is unaffected.

🚗 Drivers are advised to plan ahead and follow local signage.

Drivers - ALWAYS TAKE ANOTHER LOOK for a motorcyclist before you make any manoeuvre.
A bike is 3 times harder to see than a car, especially when they are coming from behind, coming out of junctions, at roundabouts, overtaking you or filtering through traffic.

Police stopped a car in Elderslie which had "one of the worst" bulging tyres they have ever seen 😳

They have warned that it "could kill someone" if the tyre pops while driving. The driver was fined and banned from driving until the tyre is replaced 🛞

In a separate incident, officers stopped a vehicle which had a snapped exhaust that was being held on by string and cable ties 😱
