Watching the taillights leave me is the only satisfaction I get from ball bursting jobs like these😅

2009 Vauxhall Movano

Was brought into me with a complaint for the rear brakes- No handbrake. Discs were worn & Pitted, Discolouration showing that it’s binding.

Last moment add on was that the coolant was dropping but no visible leak, coolant pressure tested this to confirm. I then checked the oil level as I know of these leaking water from the water pump into the sump as it’s driven off the Timing chain. Level was sky high and sludgy.

(Water pump bearing fails, allowing the pump to open a gap between the seal and block passing water to the oil sump)

Mercedes C180 w204
1.8L RWD

Here I post a complete disaster of a job start to finish🤣 the rust was tremendous, the excessive corrosion on the rear subframe was dangerous as you can see from the photo of the Bush. This was both sides!

This is in fact a common issue with these subframes. (W203/W204 models)

After having to replace practically every Nut & Bolt I touched, every suspension component and the rear brakes. Some rust preventative on the prescribed mounting areas to help reduce the decay of structural integrity. I of course carried out a full Geometry wheel alignment correction. With me distorting and replacing parts to which made the suspension significantly tighter, new Camber bolts etc. The car for sure sits higher, handle better and won’t chew threw tyres🫡

2009 Ford Fiesta 1.2L

Car was brought into me for Excessive play in the track rod ends but after further inspection it wasn’t road worthy at all!

•Excessive corrosion on the sub-frame, with holes.
•Both track rod ends imminent risk of detachment
•Both Inner-Tie rods no threads with corrosion
•Driver-side Coil spring broken
•Excessive play in driver-side Top mount
•corroded Oil filter causing a continuous drip of oil
•Wheel alignment required after all these repairs of course

Quite the list but car is needed for work, made a move on ordering all the parts and had it done a couple days later. Had a nightmare with these chassis Bolts, had to improvise and spent a tremendous time on nearly sorting this. But we made it Fit for the road!

Keeping ontop of your car is vital, especially with the road conditions we are facing nowadays! Up-keeping your safety with regular maintenance, helps make the issues with your car a Preventative rather than a Cure for when it’s too late exclamation‼️

Vauxhall Vivaro 1.6L

Here we had a repair in for an MOT failure along with a couple other repairs. The failure stated that it had an excessive leak of exhaust gases. And boy they weren’t wrong😅

This had been leaking for sometime according to the customer and multiple folk having had sore heads due to the emissions funnelling back into the cab across long journeys. This is a crazy common fault with these Vivaro’s/ Trafic’s. Huge tear down for such a small unit ‼️

Subframe down, exhaust down, Turbo off. I ran into issues with 3 broken studs but nothing a little acetylene can’t sort😁 new gaskets, coolant change, oil change and two Droplinks. Van was as good as new! As long as it’s on its four wheels and road safe, we have a happy customer. Cheers Liam!🫡

•This Peugeot 5008 came to me from the Isle of Barra. With no on island mechanics, this customer has been coming all the way to me for sometime now. Building that trust everyone is searching for🤝
A broken spark plug electrode wedged itself down the cylinder wall between the Piston and Bore. Causing lack of compression with piston damage. Cheaper route was a new engine (new engine came with 8k on the clock, supplied and fitted).

•Corsa with an MOT failure, typical subframe corrosion lead to a hole to which seriously weakened the structural integrity to the frame and to surrounding components. Dangerous to say the least! New track rod ends & inner tie rods with Wheel Alignment of course. Interior blower motor bearing collapsed with a burnt out resistor. No defrosting of the windscreen during the harsh coldness 🥶

•Crankshaft Pulley (harmonic balancer) failure due to the rubber dampening destruction. Along with fan belt snapping and wrapping round various other pulleys and firing rubber debris everywhere. Excessive smoke caused a little panic to this customer but it was saved no hassle and on the road she went next day👍

Many more have came through the door but not enough time to document😅 I will be capturing every job from now on out. Aspiring to teach the next person what to do in the event of anything I post happens to them.

VW Caddy 2017-2.0l TDI

These are as simple as it gets for maintenance. On this one’s repair, it was in for a Full timing belt & Water pump kit with a full service.

Being ahead of the curve with maintenance is always great. It’s a complete peace of mind and does the engine a world of good. This Caddy only has 71k on the clock which is nothing for these engines! Having All filters & Fluids changed- Oil filter, Fuel filter, pollen filter, Air filter, Coolant change etc. every service item replaced. Completely refreshing the vans Life.

Couple tyres at the rear it’s needing but this will be done for the customer returning from holiday! Keeping the ball rolling with the Winter Vehicle Health Checks (VHC).

BMW 535d E60
(M57 3.0l Twin Turbo)

Here we have my own toy. I bought this as an upgraded project! Fun is an understatement, like flying an Boeing 767🤣

This had issues with the cooling system, with it having an EGR & Cooler delete its shortened the capacity of the coolant thus allowing a little more pressure. After it popping the thermostat, coolant spilling out the coolant cap and a main coolant hose swelling like a balloon after minimal boost. I later discovered it was over pressuring enough to pop the radiator, thermostat & water pump. All in that order on the side of the road at different times😅

I spent a lot of time researching this engine, understanding its weak point and of its common issues. I done a Sniffer test (CO2 Leak test within the cooling system which would indicate a headgasket failure or split) and this came back negative!

I wasn’t convinced so I don’t it several times after with the engine at different states and still negative. I decided to deem it as headgasket. Besides going against all I’ve practiced! It was the only explanation to pressurisation within the cooling system. I also had it in my head that I can do major upgrades for more 🐎 🐎 💨.

I was correct to do so, headgasket was split between cylinder 3&4 with what looks like a hairline split, enough to force gases into the cooling system. Head went away for Pressure testing & Skimming, with soda blasting for prettiness. I made upgrades starting with
•New Uprated Timing chain Kit
•Upgraded Valve Springs
•Thicker Sports Headgasket
•Injector Refurb
•Massive intercooler
•Bigger Radiator
And there’s other ones I can’t even remember🤣

Finding time to complete this was difficult but we managed after almost 3 months off the road! Now I’m onto upgrading/replacing all suspension at all corners for more rigidity. Bigger turbos to come in and also a High pressure fuel pump upgrade to come also but glad to have her on the road😁

Currently running: 390BHP 730nm
Goal is: 600BHP 1000+nm
New Hybrid Turbos, bigger HP fuel Pump and we are there!!

Vauxhall Insignia
2.0l Ctdi- Isuzu engine

This engine has a different layout out from the regular engines in these cars. Typically a chain driven engine or a Belt driven engine. This has Both😅

It has a generic Timing belt which takes about an hour to change. But it has a small tensioned chain which runs the other camshaft in sync with the belt driven camshaft. I am unsure of the design just more to go wrong but I do know it’s not a very reliable system as I’ve done several of these all low mileage in between the desired interval changes.

A fair amount to come off, injectors & hard pipes/leak off pipe/ turbo feed pipe/breather pipes/brackets etc. this customer saved a fortune. Luckily he didn’t decide to keep cranking the engine as it was a harsh stall. No valve damage, no timing skip on the belt side with the abrupt stop. Customer very happy with the outcome😁

Been hectic busy within the garage, and a drastic climb on part waiting times. Everything seems to be on back order so uploading my work is proving to be hard with it being stripped on a ramp waiting for the parts to arrive from Germany, Italy, France, Japan😅
