I’m an independent mechanic with 15 years of trade experience, running a fully equipped home-based workshop right here in Seale. I set up S.C.R. to offer the Farnham and Guildford areas something the main dealers can't: fast turnarounds, flexible hours, and absolute transparency.

Because I don't have massive commercial garage overheads, I can offer highly competitive rates on a huge variety of work. Here is what I specialize in:

First job of the day was an interesting one. Our customer had to preform an emergency stop in a recently bought second hand car. When he applied extreme pressure on the brake pedal the car skidded which later made him question if his ABS (Anti-lock braking system) was working even though he had no warning lights on.

Upon arrival the first thing we noticed was the ABS light was not illuminating when the ignition was turned on (it should light up for approx 1-5 seconds to carry out a system test). We plugged in our diagnostic equipment to find a code pointing to the passenger side rear ABS sensor. We tested the sensor and confirmed it was faulty but this should cause the ABS light to stay on permantly.

Looking at the instrument cluster there was no obvious signs of tampering but we had to dig deeper. After removing the cluster and completely stripping it we discovered someone had spent a lot of time and effort to hide the warning light. There was cardboard wedged between the face and the body of the cluster. After removing the cardboard and replacing the faulty sensor the system was up and running with no faults and a the warning light was working as it should. Surely it would have been more cost effective to replace the sensor and not waste time stripping components to hide a fault 🤔🤷‍♂️

The MOT test will change on 20 May 2018, with new defect types, stricter rules for diesel car emissions, and some vehicles over 40 years old becoming exempt.
