Massive congratulations to Roisin for passing her driving test this morning at Hamilton Test Centre, with only 2 wee minor driving faults 😊

You have been a pleasure to teach Roisin, look forward to seeing you out and about in your own car! Mind give me a wave 👋🏻

Curious about what happens during a driving test? Here's what to expect on test day.

An eyesight check 👀
You'll read a number plate from 20 metres away or 20.5 metres if it's an old-style plate.

'Show me, tell me' vehicle safety questions 💭
You'll answer 2 questions about vehicle safety. The 'tell me' question comes before you start driving and the 'show me' question while you're on the move.

General driving ability ✅
You'll drive on a variety of roads, but not on motorways, including 20 to 35 minutes of independent driving, following either a sat nav, traffic signs, or both.

Reversing your vehicle 🚗
You'll be asked to do one of the following: parallel park, park in a bay, or pull up on the right and reverse 2 car lengths. Your examiner will let you know which one.

Knowing what's coming can make test day feel a lot less daunting.

Wet weather is sweeping the country – how does this affect braking? 🚗

Highway Code rule 126 explains stopping distances and how much space to leave between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Remember:

Leave a two-second gap between you and the vehicle in front – especially on motorways and in tunnels 🛣️

Leave a four-second gap when driving on wet roads 🌧️

Remember: large vehicles and motorcycles need a greater distance to stop. If in doubt, leave a four-second gap 🚛

Changes to driving test booking happening today. ⚠️

From today (9 June), if you move your driving test, you can only move it to one of the 3 nearest test centres to where it's currently booked.

This is the remaining change we committed to make by the end of Spring 2026:

📅 31 March — test changes limited to 2 per booking

🔒 12 May — only learners can book, change or cancel their own test

📍 9 June — test moves limited to 3 nearest centres

Since 12 May, we've suspended 3605 accounts for breaking the rules and reported apps to app stores for removal. We're not stopping there.

02/06/2026

🚨From 9 June, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.

If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:

✅ any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked

✅ the test centre you first booked at on that current booking

If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at on 9 June – not where you first booked.

Friendly, flexible, DVSA-approved driving lessons in a modern manual car – learn with confidence and care.

12/05/2026

From today, there will be more changes for learner drivers.

Only you can book or manage your car driving test. This means your driving instructor won’t be allowed to book it for you.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

New changes to how you book and manage your practical driving test are coming into effect. The DVSA is introducing these measures to make the system fairer for everyone and to stop the reselling of test slots by third parties.

If you are currently learning to drive, please take note of these three key dates:
✨31-Mar-26, The number of times you can change a test booking will be reduced from six down to two.
✨12-May-26, It will be a criminal offence for anyone other than the learner to book or manage a test. This includes driving instructors and third-party apps (Testi, TestShift, etc.).
✨09-Jun-26, You will only be able to move your test to the three closest alternative centres. If you are booked in East Kilbride, you can only switch to another East Kilbride date or move your test to Hamilton, Baillieston, or Airdrie.

A change is defined as altering the date, the time, or the test centre. It also includes swapping your slot with another learner.

Only book your test when you are truly ready to pass, whilst ensuring you choose a location you genuinely intend to use. If you need to cancel, remember to give at least 10 full working days' notice to receive a full refund.
