It's a pass for Anna Shanley on a fine Saturday morning in Dunfermline. You grabbed the overtime slot with both hands to fit in with uni life in St Andrews and it was well worth it. A measured and assured drive with just 2 driving faults and great feedback from the examiner. I know today was a relief for you (and me both!) and you can concentrate on your presentation on Monday which sounds way tougher than what you just did this morning! It's been my pleasure to have you and your chats in the car and I've watched you grow into a young adult before my very eyes. It's a pass for Sebby Tomlinson 🥳🎉 and it's a close run thing who is more delighted - me, you or your Mum! This one was a personal triumph and you had to overcome real disappointment to get to this day, passing with only a few driving faults in your own car. You powered on, you kept up the great work and it's a huge thanks to Mum and Dad for helping in your private practice. Good luck in everything you do from this point. Stay safe and I'll be looking for that smile and wave on the roads because I suspect you'll never be off them!

🚗 WOULD YOU BE HAPPY FOR THEM TO DRIVE ALONE TOMORROW?

That’s the question I wish more parents asked before rushing towards a driving test.

Not:
“Can we get a cancellation?”
Not:
“Can they just try it?”
Not:
“Their friend passed after twenty hours.”

Would you genuinely be comfortable watching your child drive away tomorrow without an instructor beside them?

Police are currently asking parents to stay involved after young drivers pass.
That doesn’t mean becoming the permanent passenger-seat examiner.

It means conversations about night driving, passengers, speed, fatigue, phones and who they’re travelling with.

Passing the test isn’t the end of learning.

It’s the first day you have to make every decision without us sitting beside you.
