Yet another decision from the DVSA that makes no sense.
With the wait time for a test already at around 6 months, Monday morning queues of over 10,000 people calling the DVSA and the shortage of underpaid examiners are we honestly expected to only book a test for someone when they are test ready? Then be accused of overcharging for the next 6 months.
We're out there every day teaching people to be safe drivers, not just to get a pass. There is no set time limit on this, everyone learns at different rates. Additional driving wìth parents is definitely beneficial and accelerates this process but it's really important that we present our learners for test with all the safe driving principles that they will need to keep them and others safe for the duration of their driving life.

Get ready for the driving test booking rule changes. 🚗👇
From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to make 2 changes to a practical car driving test booking.
A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping a test between 2 learners
If you’re an ADI, we’d encourage you to make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready to take it and in a location they can easily travel to.
