So it’s been a while but I’m back at it! Yesterday was welding and primer paint day! There were a few patches on the body that needed a few welding stitches (which I will admit I’m not very good at 😅) then we sealed them stitches and I got on with the primer!

So my update is a few days late but I’m sure no one minds 😅
After the issues I was having with a large gap between the rocker arm and the valve spring my dad came up the an idea to make a similar set up to what he has on Kermit and replicate it onto my engine. We sourced a local company who made some blocks and did a test fit on them on Tuesday. They fit PERFECT! And they look perfect too 😁 I’m really happy with them! Just got the other side to cut and fit now then the pre-load. Very exciting news indeed! Oh and a funny thing that happened, my dad told me to pop some copper grease on the bolts but I accidentally dropped the whole thing in the tub 😂🤦🏼‍♀️
In other news. Today we took Kermit up to John Sleath Race Cars for dyno and while the first run was excellent the second run was the total opposite. Kermit went bang and blew a piston 😭 safe to say me and my dad are very annoyed and upset with it been so close to race season.

Hello!!! Sorry I’ve been quiet this past few weeks. I have stumbled upon a couple of issues so currently the engine build is on pause temporarily. On Tuesday I fitted my lifters and started to fit the push rods and rockers which Is where the problem arose as it left me with half an inch gap between the rocker and the valve spring, and vice versus on the pushrod. Racking our brains and asking many many people we found out that at a certain point in time the valves in caddy engines were made longer....resulting in mine not been long enough! The ones I have are from a company we use called rock auto (absolutely fantastic company by the way for those needing excellent parts from America delivered very quickly) and they only stock one length of valve so obviously we assumed they were the right ones not realising that the valve length was changed. I may or may not have cried a little thinking I would have to completely re-do my heads again. But thankfully my extremely clever dad came up with a brilliant idea! The length of the valve won’t affect how the engine is run it only affects how the other parts fit so my dads sourced a company who are currently in the process of making me some rocker bar blocks the same as the ones my dad has on Kermit. I took A set of rockers off Kermit and offered them up to my heads and voila they fit perfect so I’m currently having some made up so I can finally get the engine together with hopefully (🤞🏼) no more hiccups! I am hoping they on Tuesday they will be ready so I can get back to work.

Not much to update on this week really. I’ve stripped my gearbox back and we’ve got some new plates for it (thank you John Sleath Race Cars!) so next week that will be rebuilt then few more bits to dabble with on the engine and then it’s all car work! Thankfully the wonderful Rod who I got the car off initially had a wonderful pre prepped dash to go in it with all the switches and buttons in. I am going to be carbon fibre coating it and popping a new shift light that my mum and dad got me for my birthday last month. We’ve also sourced out the exhaust manifolds from my dads Aladdin’s cave of parts which we are going to have a look at fitting, they are for front ended exhausts so not sure if I’ll stick with them but will see. My only issue is I don’t fancy cutting any holes in that beautiful bodywork 😅 we do have other manifolds which can be used but my dad wanted me to see what these were like first. It does seem like we’re getting closer to the end of my build journey now that my engine is nearly complete BUT I know it’s just a step closer to the biggest task of sorting the actual car herself! I have a lot (and I mean ALOT) of work to do on her to get her ready for race season. It’s definitely something I’ve popped to the back of my mind while I’ve been doing the engine. But a positive note is my son starts nursery this month so it will give me a lot more time to be able to crack on with her, much to my partners disappointment (sorry Dave 😅) as I’m sure he was hoping to be able to spend some quality time together after a hectic year of having 3 kids running riot in the house every day. But as all of us in the racing community know......cars come first 😉

So here we go today’s update! As you have probably seen today was finally paint day! I cleaned off another sump and got that fitted and got it completely prepped for paint. Spent a fair few hours painting waiting for drying and adding more coats. The satisfaction seeing it all done was immense! So now I have about half a days work left on the engine then it is finished! I even managed to take some time to start on the CK Performance upgrade on the TH400 Transmission.
A very constructive day for sure

Safe to say I am EXTREMELY happy with the outcome of this! Proper update post coming soon so until then....enjoy 😁

This new update is full of stress, I’m so hacked off with my sump at the moment, we’ve got a leak through a weld we did. We have even gone to the extend of putting a metal plate on and welding that round completely in the hope it worked.....unfortunately it didn’t 😓 the leak is only small it’s not dripping but obviously this can not be left. I’m just worried we’re going to make a mess and end up in a situation we can’t get out of. On Thursday I got so fed up with it I threw in the towel and brought myself home ready to go back on Monday and start a fresh with a clear head. It had also been made known to me that was be made a rookie mistake of putting my heads on the wrong sides. Again more stress as I’ve torqued them up but I’ve made the accident of not paying attention and put the water outlet to the rear of the engine instead of the front 🤦🏼‍♀️
I’m really hoping that Monday I can bring a better more positive update

My apologies, I have been posting but they haven’t actually been posting. This one I’m posting in the sheer hope it does post 😩 I’m
Not sure what’s going off and why my posts aren’t actually been shown (even I can’t see them) if this one posts then I will try with another update post 🤞🏼
