Nice to do something different for a change!

Here's a few pictures of an engine rebuild I carried out recently for a Austin a35

on and off We've been restoring this car bit by bit, and finally the block came back from the machining shop a couple weeks ago, after a +10 bore out as well as a crank re-grind, it was ready to put back together.

All new shells, new timing chain and gears, new oversized pistons + rings (the head had already previously been done)

All ready to go back in the car!

Is your auxiliary belt squeaking? It could be something you wouldn't expect

Had a customer call me after this was previously diagnosed and a faulty auxiliary belt tensioner

As you can see in the first video, the tensioner is vibrating at a high frequency and bouncing all over the place, but this is actually caused by the one way clutch on the alternator pulley seizing and not allowing slip where necessary.

Sometimes you can just change the pulley, but for this vehicle it wasn't available, so after a new alternator, the fault was fixed, no more bouncing tensioner and no squeak

Cambelt kit change carried out on this insignia last week

All done properly with the correct timing tool, and modified timing belt kit with upgraded pulleys

All cambelt changes are always carried out with the correct timing tool, making sure everything is set correctly (which a lot of garages don't do)

With a few spare hours this afternoon, I thought it was about time that I got on with the S.C Autos Cinquecento!

Previous owner (who was a older gentleman) had done his best to patch up the rot with fiberglass and filler

Managed to get hold of some rear arches from a company abroad a few months ago but just haven't had the time to put them in until now

Here's today's progress so far!

A class that was in the other week with the classic vent flaps fault, showing water in the rear foot well, very common!

Same day. Same fault. 2 different systems, old and new

Both vehicles suffered from the clutch pedal dropping to the floor and not returning

On older vehicles like the boxer. They have a simple cable connecting the pedal to the clutch release arm, this one had happened to snap due to general wear and tear, after a new cable and correct adjustment, it was back on the road and usable again

On newer vehicles, the cable is replaced with a hydraulic system, consisting of a master cylinder and a slave cylinder. On the caddy the slave cylinder had cracked, causing all the fluid to leak out and loose the pedal. After replacing the slave cylinder and bleeding the system. The clutch was fully operational again

It's been a while!

A lot has been going on over the last few months regarding the business growing and I just haven't had a chance to post.

But with sc autos now trading for a year it's time to get back on it

We've been carrying out a lot of work on this calibra over the last few months and getting it up to spec. Today's job was a leaking cam cover gasket. This one was quite bad at the spark plug holes were full of oil!

Been very busy this week getting cars ready for the Christmas period with brakedowns, emergency work and winter checks

Carried out a winter check on Wednesday on this lovely jag, all in tip top condition safe for the Christmas break

I will be working from the 27th onwards for emergency callouts as bookable work is nearly fully booked already, but if you have any problems, please feel free to give me a message or a ring to see if we can squeeze you in

Went out to a breakdown yesterday on a ldv van, customer had lost all gears and said the gearstick had gone floppy, turns out they had snapped the gear selector in half!

Luckily it was repairable, so after a quick trip to the workshop and getting the trusty welder out, and after a bit of care it was as good as new, with extra reinforcing so it'll never happen again, customer was up and running the same day which is what it's all about
