The Myth: If everyone switches to an EV, the UK electricity grid will crash.

The Reality: The National Grid has repeatedly confirmed that a nationwide switch to electric transport would only increase total UK electricity demand by around 10–15%.
Most EV charging happens overnight during peak surplus hours when demand is lowest. Add smart chargers, solar integration, and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) tech, and EVs actually help balance the grid, storing green energy when the wind blows and sun shines. Share this with someone who still thinks the grid can't cope! ⚡

The UK Government has confirmed the removal of planning permission requirements for cross-pavement charging cable channels and home wall boxes.

Around 40% of UK households lack off-street parking. Previously, running a cable meant red tape, council delays, or expensive public charging tariffs.

Just to note that there are already many EV drivers who don't have a driveway but are able to make public charging financially viable.

There are apps such as Co-charger for sharing home chargers, and some of the public charger operators offer subscriptions with reduced rates.

Here’s the short version of what researchers found when they modelled thousands of real-world driving scenarios:
🏗️ Day 1: Yes, manufacturing an EV battery produces more emissions than building a petrol car.
🚗 Lifetime: Driving the EV slashes total lifetime emissions by 40% to 60% across most regions.
❄️ Cold Weather: Range drops in freezing weather, but over a full year, the total emissions win remains massive.
💰 Cost: EVs come out competitive over lifetime ownership—even without tax credits factored in.
Disliking the steering response or missing a manual gear shift are totally valid personal choices. But the claim that EVs aren't cleaner over their lifespan? Time to put that one to rest.
