A continuation of my previous video, this was the Peugeot near the end of its cleaning cycle, it is clear to see and as clear as the water that the ash residue is now removed, leaving the filter restored to full health.

A recent video of a 1.4HDi Peugeot 208 having its DPF cleaned.
The ash content was 100% which lead to particulate filter overloaded faults and the vehivke unable to regenerate. If let untreated it would have caused turbo and worse engine failure. All now restored to full health and good for another 100000miles.

A badly blocked Audi EGR cooler in for a clean, was dropped this evening and on initial look at it possibly the worst I have had to date.
I cannot stress to people enough not to ignore service schedules, maintenance or warning lights on 16 on VAG Diesel engines. These low pressure EGR Coolers blocked can lead to serious issues and cause cracks to the DPF internally, one major give away is soot content at the tailpipe. If the filter is functioning correctly the tailpipe should be spotless inside.

2017 Passat CC DPF in for a clean. The Brown/Red colour is ash.
Ash is a by product of soot, everytime soot content reaches a certain level the vehicle requests a regen. When regeneration takes place it burns the soot particles and creates a minute amount of ash, over the lifetime of the filter the ash content accumulates inside the filter.
The ash Content over the years, reduces the filters capacity to store soot and will lead to higher differential/ back pressure, restrictions, more frequent regenerations, power loss and can result in serious engine damage.
Ash is in its lowest form in the particulate trap and cannot be washed out on a vehicle, regardless of what various products claim! It is impossible.

This DPF is £1200-1500 new, with our specialist cleaning equipment it will be restored 99% efficiency of a new unit, for a fraction of the cost.

A couple of VAG DPFs and coolers today both with the same soot accumulation and clogged low pressure EGR cooler issues.

Here we have a DPF being cleaned, it is from a 2017 Citroen dispatch. The vehicle has 91k on it and was being cleaned due to the vehicle having its turbo replaced.
After initial assessment of the van it was deemed that turbo failure was due to poor maintenance. The van was purchased last year with an apparent service history!!!!
In my opinion, poor maintainance and a restriction in the DPF due to Ash, caused excessive back pressure and resulted in turbo failure.
91k and oil changed 3 times opposed to at the very least 9 oil changes!
If a van is required to be a work horse, essential maintenance is key.

2013 Toyota Yaris with a reoccurring DPF issue, every 100miles or so the vehicle was going into limp mode and logging a fault for Soot accumulation.
The brown flowing out is an indication of the amount of ash build up in the filter.
It has now been restored to full health and after testing all has returned to normal.

This is a major issue which affects the 1.4d4ds, if left untreated it results in:
loss of power
Oil level increasing due to failed regeneration thus contaminating the engine with diesel
Turbo failure
Engine failure.

An excellent and informative video from my good friend Gary Wood. Gary is a great believer in “testing and not guessing” in order to achieve a first time fix.
In this video he correctly identifies a “P2002 DPF efficiency below threshold” where others failed. He gives an insight into the workings of the system and the removal of the component causing the issue.
Well done Gary on another top quality video.

I have seen an increase in cleaning both the low pressure EGR coolers and DPFs in the entire VAG range. As most of these vehicles are now out of the manufacturers 3 year warranty i expect to see more and more.

Another vehicle in with DPF faults and Restricted EGR flow. This time a 2015 BMW 320d. The owner purchased the vehicle a few months back and has been plagued with power loss for most of this period. On initial assessment it was deemed as a blocked EGR cooler that was at fault.
BMW was contacted as there was a recall on these vehicles but to no avail as the recall had been carried out in April 2019. With no good will gesture on the cards the owner was going to be out of pocket replacing the cooler, on my advice they decided to opt for it to be removed and assessed.

On removing it was evident that the cooler was completely clogged, I had poured a little liquid in one end for it to sit stationary, unable even to flow at all, using specialist equipment I deemed the EGR valve to be in perfect working order and fully serviceable. I tested the cooler to insure no internal water jacket leaks and set about cleaning it.

It is now fully restored, all components relearned and faults erased, vehicle is now back to full health and operation.

Just checking the Golf EGR cooler after it’s clean, all ports was badly blocked. Now by shining a torch through it the light can be seen emitting through all the channels.
As good as new.
