It is a privilege to be invited to technical conferences to share our knowledge and experience with those looking to reduce their environmental impact through the entire product lifecycle. Our Managing Director, Mark Hitchmough, recently presented to members and partners of IMOCA (International Monohull Open Class Association). Discussions centred around the important topic of waste management in the marine industry and Mark demonstrated how our recycled carbon fibre products can be incorporated into a variety of boat designs and structures.

Following six years of innovation, Lightyear has officially launched the world’s first, production-ready, long range solar electric car. The response has been overwhelming.

It was a landmark moment for our organisation too, as Lightyear 0 incorporates our G-TEX M recycled carbon fibre nonwovens throughout the structure.

Prodrive Composites, who have been instrumental in developing automotive applications of our products, specified reclaimed carbon fibre on the structural body side and the body exterior. These versatile materials allow for design freedom, weight savings, as well as significant cost and environmental footprint reduction when compared to virgin carbon fibres.

Our Managing Director, Mark Hitchmough, took part in the Clean Marine Innovation Showcase at the Green Tech Boat show in Plymouth today. This unique forum enables government, researchers and businesses working towards a cleaner marine environment to come together to exchange ideas, highlight new innovations and network with likeminded organisations.

Mark discussed how Gen 2 Carbon can support those in the marine industry looking to reduce their environmental impact through the entire product lifecycle, from production to end-of-life. We’re delighted to have been involved in this new and exciting showcase.

We are proud to be part of the HELACS Project consortium, transforming the dismantling process of aircrafts of the future.

Funded by Clean Sky 2 under the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, HELACS aims to develop and demonstrate a decommissioning methodology to enable the sorting, recycling and reuse of large composites components from end-of-life aircraft.

Gen 2 Carbon’s role is to optimise upstream waste management and transition to an energy efficient pyrolysis process. This reprocessed waste is then converted into recycled, carbon fibre nonwoven mats to be used in aerospace applications.

HELACS aims to increase recyclability of aircraft parts by an impressive 40%, reducing CO2 emissions and promoting a greener aviation industry. To learn more, visit: https://www.aitiip.com/helacs.html

Mark Hitchmough is presenting to members and partners of IMOCA (International Monohull Open Class Association) in Port de Bourgenay today. Discussions centre around the important topic of waste management in the marine industry. This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded organisations looking to improve their waste profile and increase their use of recycled products.

Tomorrow, Mark will participate in a IMOCA workshop in Les Sables d'Olonne. ‘Alternative materials in marine construction’ is the central theme and Mark will discuss how our recycled carbon fibre products can be incorporated into a variety of boat designs and structures.

Gen 2 Carbon is honoured to be part of this ground-breaking initiative led by our recycling partners, 11th Hour Racing. More news on this exciting collaboration to follow!

Exciting times ahead.

We are delighted to announce our joint venture with Deakin University to promote the development of carbon fibre recycling in Australia. This newly formed enterprise is part of the ‘Recycling and Renewable Energy Commercialisation Hub’ (REACH) and builds on the University’s end-to-end manufacturing capabilities.

Gen 2 Carbon’s contribution to the programme will be the transfer of knowledge in carbon fibre recovery and conversion into high quality, nonwoven recycled mats. This work will be undertaken at Deakin’s carbon fibre and composite research facility in Geelong, Victoria, where feedstock will be processed from a variety of waste streams throughout Australia.

Today is our final day at JEC World 2022. Here is the last of our striking applications, manufactured with recycled nonwoven technology, the RS Electric Boats Ltd, Pulse 63 Front Hatch and RS Sailing, Neo Foredeck.

The Pulse 63 Front Hatch, is a lightweight hatch from a zero-emission boat manufactured in the UK for RS Electric Boats made through the infusion of G-TEX M, 100% recycled carbon fibre around a recycled PET core using vinylester resin. Shown in clear gelcoat, the finish highlights the unique aesthetics the non-woven materials create.

Replacing traditional glass and PET materials, this version of the Neo Foredeck is manufactured infusing G-TEX M 100% recycled carbon fibre, also around a recycled PET foam with bio-based resins derived from cashew nut husks.

To see these unique pieces, visit us in Hall 5, Booth F6.

Final day here at JEC World and we continue with our introduction to the range of exhibits on display.

Here on the stand, you can see an interior cabin lining from the 2021 Boeing ecoDemonstrator, a partnership with Alaska Airlines. This section was manufactured as part of a multi-year R&D effort, conducted jointly by Boeing technology development teams and Gen 2 Carbon.

The cabin lining combines recycled carbon fibre with a thermoplastic resin to enable the structural, flammability and aesthetic requirements of the part to be met.
