TOYOTA 3SGTE aka the MR2 turbo engine. This engine caused some issues due to the starter motor being mounted on the gearbox. The first idea was to use the mr2 flywheel and machine the rx8 bellhousing to suit the mr2 starter motor, but that would be going away from the bolt on solution we normally offer. The new solution that my mate came up with. Was use an aftermarket rx8 flywheel (the inner diameter needs to be machined out a couple of millimeters to suit the crank adapter) this is still easier than machining the gearbox. Then bolt the flywheel adapter to the crank and flywheel to the adapter. You can use all rx8 starter motor, flyhweel and full clutch. I am getting prices for the crank hub adapter at the moment but i am hoping to offer the kit with bolts for around £320 posted but we’ll see.

This week in the workshop. The build continues on this rs2000 16v motor. The bolts have been “torqued” in the and checked using a stretch gauge to ensure the bolt reaches its correct clamping force. The cylinder head has been cc’s to ensure we get the correct compression ratio. Next is to put the head on and time up the piper cams using a degree wheel to ensure max lift is at the correct crank angle.

The forged es**rt screamer motor is coming along nicely now. This week we torqued/stretched the rod bolts in the rods. Im my opinion it is the only way to do the job. We also cc’d the cylinder head to work out the compression ratio of the motor, put it this way it is looking well!

We will fix almost anything. A little job for a friend today. This fmf exhaust off a KTM250 EXC had seen better days. I started by pressurising the exhaust chamber to 40psi and heated the dents heavily. This pushed the pressure up to a nice 80psi and along with the heat the pressure took some really nasty dings out. Giving rhis exhaust another lease of life.

Nice easy job this one. First up was tomake a stainless steel bush for this porsche mecan turbo. It is a common fault they wear out and cause a metalic rattling sound. The rebuild kit bought had the wrong size bush to seat in the turbo housing. The bush was made it is is a press fit. But if you freeze the bush and heat the turbo housing it will drop in. The hole was rough drilled and final machined withba reamer. This ensures it is the correct size andthe finish is on point not to bind with the wastegate shaft.
