🍂 Young Drivers: Is This Your First Autumn Behind the Wheel? 🚗

As the seasons change, so do the driving conditions. If this is your first autumn driving experience, it's important to be aware of the extra hazards that come with darker evenings, wet roads and falling leaves.

⚠️ Watch out for:
🍁 Wet leaves on the road, which can be as slippery as ice.
🌧️ Rain reducing visibility and increasing stopping distances.
🌫️ Fog affecting how far ahead you can see.
🌅 Low sun glare during morning and evening journeys.
🦌 Increased chances of encountering wildlife on rural roads.

✅ Slow down and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front.
✅ Make sure your lights, tyres, wipers and screen wash are in good condition.
✅ Take your time and adjust your driving to the conditions.

🌳 Rural Roads: Expect the Unexpected 🚗

A quiet country road doesn’t mean an empty road.

Around the next bend you could meet:

🐴 Horses and riders
🚶 Pedestrians and walkers
🚴 Cyclists
🚜 Tractors and farm vehicles
🐑 Livestock or wildlife
🚗 A vehicle travelling towards you on a narrow section

When driving on rural roads:

✅ Slow down before bends and make sure you can stop safely within the distance you can see to be clear.
✅ Look out for vulnerable road users, particularly where there are no pavements or dedicated paths.
✅ Pass horse riders, pedestrians and cyclists slowly and with plenty of space.
✅ Be patient if you encounter tractors, horses or other slow-moving road users.
✅ Adjust your speed for narrow roads, poor visibility, mud, standing water and changing weather conditions.

⚠️ Never assume the road ahead is clear just because it looks quiet.

Expect the unexpected. Slow down, stay alert and help keep everyone safe on our rural roads.
