Race report for Kay'ce Fenner, Round 6 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. Kay'ce is racing in the Junior Rotax Class using her own engine in Jeremy's kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic, and Brian as Mentor 😁

As reported in Bailey's write up, the weather hated us for this one! ☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️ it could not make up its mind! This makes it so difficult for the mechanics to set the kart up and choose the right tyres for each heat! Let alone the drivers having to nurse wets on a drying track, or trying to find some grip with slicks as the rain comes in!

Kay'ce is a graduate of the Youngstarz Training at Red Lodge, same as Jeremy and Bailey, so she is used to racing in the rain on slicks 😁👌 her first experience in the Junior Rotax on a wet track was with wet tyres and she loved it, so we were looking forward to seeing her showing her skill and natural ability handling the kart in rapidly changing conditions 👍

Qualifying:
Another first for Kay'ce! Her first race day at the last round was split practice and random grids because of the high amount of entries in the Junior Rotax Class, but this time the lower entry numbers meant the Race Director changed back to Qualifying format, and all Junior Rotax karts would be on track together!
A wet track to begin with, Kay'ce settled in to the kart and got some laps in, getting used to the handling, pushing to find the limit of the grip, just as Jeremy would, and unfortunately dipping a rear tyre very slightly on the wet grass resulting in a very graceful spin in the last corner!

Heat 1:
The spin in Qualifying compromised Kay'ces session but she still qualified 21st out of 24 karts, she is still a novice on black and white number plates and would normally start at the back of the grid anyway 👍 A scruffy rolling start meant Kay'ce got pushed wide and ended up in last place after the first few corners! 😞 no problem for Kay'ce though, she got her head down and drove beautifully, picking off the karts in front one by one and finished a fantastic 19th out of 24!

Heat 2:
Kay'ce was expecting to be at the back of the grid again for this heat, but was delighted when we realised she would be able to start from her finishing position from heat one! A better start this time, she only dropped back one position through the first lap... but then the heavens opened! The track was quickly soaked.... and Kay'ce loved it! She beautifully threaded her way through the pack and mayhem all the way up to 11th by lap three!! 😲 one of the more experienced drivers caught her up in the last few laps and she finished a brilliant 12th! A gain of seven places!! 👌

Heat 3:
Having earned a fantastic 12th place start for this heat, we took Kay'ce to the dummy grid on wet tyres but the sky was rapidly clearing and the track was drying up fast .... Jeremy rushed round from looking after Bailey ready to change to slicks .... but we were running out of time to get to the grid, so we opted to leave her on wets.... now the rules state that you need to be on the 'dummy grid' before the last lap of the previous race to take up your grid position, if you arrive to the dummy grid after that you forfeit your grid spot and start from the back of the grid... we arrived on the grid in time and Kay'ce was the only one there!! Every single other competitor was just outside of the dummy grid swapping to dry tyres! So.... technically Kay'ce should have been on pole position!! 🤔 Kay'ce wasn't worried though, she has only just started racing almost half way through the Championship, so results don't matter too much this season, it is more for practice and experience. She sensibly took the start and held her position nicely for the first three laps before the wet tyres started to overheat, at that point she came into the pits to retire and save the tyres for the final. A very mature decision for someone just starting out and Jeremy and I are super proud of her for doing that 🙌 .... and super glad because we were running out of wet tyres!! 😬

Final:
Even though Kay'ce retired from heat 3, she still earned a very respectable final grid position of 18th out of 24 karts! The rain had come back again as they rolled up to the start, another scruffy first couple of laps, Kay'ce dropped back a couple of places but then started to move forward again, up to 15th by lap four!! She was battling with the kart in front and another kart caught them both up, making for a very exciting race! At this point we found out that Kay'ce had been given a 5 second penalty for 'breaking start formation', just before the start line, she had spotted a gap on the inside and safely moved across into it but had just crossed the centre line only slightly before the start line, the Start Marshall saw it and it is part of the rules, even though Kay'ce did it safely ... as we looked back to watch Kay'ces race, she made a pass into 14th place... she was now the leading novice but the 5 second penalty would put her back behind the second place novice... could she pull out enough of a gap to retain her 14th place overall and 1st novice?!?.... Kay'ce slowly started to pull away from the two karts behind, we were counting down the laps to the finish and checking the gap back to the next novice.... slowly she increased the gap, lap after lap, we watched the gap... 3 seconds... 4 seconds.... 5 seconds.... she crossed the line 6 seconds ahead of the next novice! She did it, after the penalty was applied, Kay'ce retained 14th place overall and won the top novice trophy again!! 😄🏆

Superb driving from Kay'ce all day, totally under control wheel to wheel racing, sensible and mature in her overtakes and decisions, we are all super proud that she is racing with Jeremy Lock Motorsport with her awesome new Castrol Classic livery, we are really looking forward to the next round 👌

Many thanks from all of us at Jeremy Lock Motorsport to Castrol Classic Oils

Massive thanks as always to Mick and his Club 2000 team for all their hard work 👍

Look out for the race report for our Senior Rotax driver, Bailey Cameron 👍

And many thanks to Stu Stretton Photography for the awesome photos 👍 you can clearly see throughout the photos how the track conditions changed.... and so did Kay'ces suit! Starting with Jeremy's waterproof suit, then not having time to put it back on, her blue suit got soaked! She then used Jeremy's spare suit in the final 😄☔️☔️

Race report for Bailey Cameron, Round 6 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd. Bailey is racing in Senior Rotax class using Jeremy's 2025 Championship winning kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic.

The weather hated us for this one!! ☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️☀️☔️ Possibly the worst, most volatile conditions we've ever experienced on a race day, you could hear wheel guns and ratchets echoing around the paddock all day, amongst the groans and sighs from all the drivers, mechanics, parents, grandparents switching from wet tyres to dry tyres and back again as the conditions changed so rapidly!! 😩🫣
As such, my write up won't be as detailed as it usually is I'm afraid, it all changed so quickly it was so difficult to keep up! 🤯

At the beginning of the season, Bailey showed his skill and kart control in the cold, wet, slippery conditions, then adjusted to the very grippy hot dry conditions for the last couple of rounds. Now this round would be another steep learning curve, a warm track but rapidly and constantly changing from wet to dry. Extremely difficult for Jeremy to choose a setup and tyre to exactly match the conditions as they kept changing before, after, and during the heats! 🫣

Practice:
The track was just starting to dry as the Seniors headed out, half the grid was on wets and half on slicks, initially the wets were quicker but it dried up so quickly that by the end of the session, the slicks were much faster.

Heat 1:
Bailey's first random grid position was 9th, he made a really good start and had an excellent first lap, carving through the pack up to 4th. The track was drying rapidly again and the wet tyre runners started to struggle as the tyres overheated, Bailey held on as best he could as the slick runners took advantage of the drying track, and he crossed the line in 6th.

Heat 2:
Starting 4th this time, a nice clean start and after a couple of laps, Bailey started to move forward again, showing superb kart control in the increasingly wet conditions, finishing 2nd. After the heat he said "that was the most fun I have ever had in a kart!" 😄

Heat 3:
Bailey's best starting position for the day, lining up 2nd on the grid, and taking the lead for a couple of laps, then dropping back to 2nd he maintained until near the end of the heat, his tyres were struggling again and he dropped back to 4th at the finish.

Final:
After such a tricky day, Bailey's final grid position was a very respectable 4th and the track was fully dry.... but a huge dark cloud was moving in again! Jeremy had to make another very difficult decision! If he put wets on, they would overheat before the rain arrives and destroy the tyres and the advantage.... or go with slicks and rely on Bailey's skill to keep the kart under control when the inevitable downpour came!.... well he knows Bailey is a fellow graduate of the Youngstarz Training at Red Lodge and they always race on slicks whatever the weather, so in the end it was an easy decision for Jeremy, but a tricky race ahead for Bailey!
It was a rough start for Bailey though, getting pushed out and dropping back to 7th in the first lap, but he kept his cool just as Jeremy would and as soon as the rain started, his skill and determination showed as he started a magnificent comeback, carving his way through the pack back up to finish 2nd! An incredible drive in atrocious conditions on slicks! 🙌

A good way to finish an extremely difficult day! Bailey now moves up to 2nd in the Championship standings, but it's very tight with 3rd and 4th, so all to play for as we head into the 'second half' of the season 👍

Bailey and his family would like to thank all their sponsors, especially their new sponsor J & M Roofing and Scaffolding Limited 👍

Race report for Round 5 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd, *PART 2* 😉, Kay'ce Fenner racing in Jeremy's Junior Rotax kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic and Brian as Mentor 😁👍

I didn't expect to be writing this one as early as this in the season! 😲

Kay'ce showed her natural skill in corporate karts, graduating from the excellent Youngstarz training and was really keen to start racing in Junior Rotax as soon as she was confident enough. Jeremy gave her a few hints and tips whilst he was helping out as an instructor at Youngstarz, and noticed how well she listened and precisely applied what he had said, improving all the time. So when Kay'ce and her family asked Jeremy to help get her racing in Junior Rotax, he was more than happy to help.

As with her corporate racing, Kay'ce was fully committed to learning and improving as much as possible, always taking Jeremy's advice and applying it to her driving. She had done all the test days this season and, like Bailey, was keen to do more, and the extra test day that Red Lodge Karting and Club 2000 added on Friday 1st May was perfect timing.... with the race day the following day, it would be the ideal way to introduce Kay'ce to Club 2000 racing, but we wouldn't force her to do it, it would have to be her and her families decision... even though Jeremy had said she is definitely ready 👌

Friday test day

Kay'ce took to the track looking very smooth and under control, matching her best lap time from the previous test day in her first session!! As the lunch break approached, Jeremy asked Kay'ce if she would like to race the next day at Round 5, she was keen but unsure if she felt ready, so her and her family said they would arrive first thing and join in the scrutineering and drivers briefing, just to experience it all.... after the lunch break she did another session and improved her lap time again..... she came back to the pits and said to Jeremy that she would like to race!! 😁we were chuffed to bits! Kay'ce did one more session and let Jeremy have a few laps in the kart just to check it over ready for racing 👍

Race day Saturday

We had a good set of Junior Rotax tyres set aside ready for Kay'ce when she started racing, Jeremy fitted them and prepped the kart, then we guided Kay'ce through scrutineering, Jeremy did a track walk with her to give her a few tips on certain corners, then she attended the drivers briefing. Mick the race director likes to go through a few things with new drivers after the drivers briefing and Kay'ce was really excited, not as nervous as we thought she would be 👍

Practice

There was a nice large number of entries in the Junior Rotax Class, so practice was split into two sessions, one for all odd number drivers and one for all even numbers, this way the track is not so crowded and the drivers have a little more space to put in some good laps.

Kay'ce was one of six novice drivers, the fresh tyres were better than Kay'ce had driven on before and she was soon up to speed, finishing 8th out of 12 drivers, faster than 4 experienced drivers! A great confidence boost for her!

Heat 1
With all the Novice drivers at the back of the grid, Kay'ce nervously took her random grid position, 18th out of 20 drivers. She had never done a rolling start before, we talked her through the procedures and off they went.... already having to move up one position and swap sides due to the 4th place kart not making it to the grid!.... then as the warm up laps were so scruffy at the front of the grid, they had two false starts! Kay'ce handled it really well, keeping her position nicely on the roll up to the start, and off they went!! Kay'ce managed it superbly, moving up 4 places in the first few corners!! She quickly caught up with the 13th place kart and lap after lap she tried to pass him, making moves and putting him under pressure just like Jeremy would! It was fantastic to watch, and on lap 8 she finally got past cleanly, then started to pull out a gap of nearly 3 seconds before the end of the heat, finishing 13th out of 20 drivers! Not only that, her fastest lap time was a whole second quicker than the test day, and only 6 tenths off the fastest lap of the heat! A fantastic start to her racing career!

Heat 2

Kay'ce's random grid position was 16th for this heat, the lead Novice on the grid. Another good clean rolling start, and she made up one place in the first few corners again. She settled in to a nice rhythm and made up another place on lap 3 into 14th. Just before the end of the heat, the kart behind Kay'ce made a move and she dropped back to finish the heat in 15th on track, ahead of all the other novices 👍 during scrutineering after the heat, one of the top three finishers was found to be underweight and was disqualified, promoting Kay'ce back up to 14th.

Heat 3

Lining up 19th and last on the grid for this heat, Kay'ce managed her start superbly again! Moving up to 16th in the first few corners, again showing amazing kart control and maturity, Jeremy was super impressed as were we all, a little shocked too! On lap 3 she moved up another place and again on lap 6, where she finished in 14th, gaining 5 places in the heat!

Final

Incredibly on her first race day in a Junior Rotax, Kay'ce qualified 16th in the A final! The only Novice to be placed in the A final, all the other novices and a few experienced drivers were placed in the B final. We were all super proud of her, what an achievement! The top four finishers in the B final joined the back of the grid for the A final, so Kay'ce started the final 16th out of 20 drivers. Again she had a clean start and made up one place in the first few corners, then on lap 5 there was a crashed on the start finish straight, with two karts stuck in the tyres facing the wrong way! Luckily the drivers were unhurt and Kay'ce slowed down correctly through the yellow flag zone, she was now running in 13th place! With the incident cleared away, they were racing again and Kay'ce relentlessly chased down the kart in front of her, just as she caught up to him, he must of had a problem and pulled into the pits, Kay'ce finished her first Junior Rotax A final in 12th place! 😁 her best lap time was only 8 tenths off the fastest lap time! Add to that she was the top finishing Novice and received the Best Novice trophy 🏆

An absolutely incredible debut race day, Jeremy was super proud of her, she definitely has a natural ability and we are really excited for the rest of the season 😁👍

Many thanks from all of us at Jeremy Lock Motorsport to Castrol Classic Oils
http://www.castrol.com/uk/classics for their continued support 👌 Kay'ce will soon have her Castrol Classic livery added to her kart 😁

Race report for Round 5 of the Club 2000 Championship at Red Lodge Karting Ltd, *PART 1* 🤔 😉, Bailey Cameron racing in Jeremy's Senior Rotax kart, with Jeremy as coach and mechanic.

Such a fantastic weekend! So much so, that I will have to do two write ups..... and I couldn't be happier!! 😁 ..... watch this space for PART 2!! 😉

We were really keen to get Bailey out on a dry test day so Jeremy could fine tune the setup to better suit Bailey's driving style. He had only done one test day, his first outing in a Senior Rotax kart, just after Christmas and it was cold and wet! He showed his skill and kart control straight away, a benefit of training with Youngstarz in the wet on slicks, same as Jeremy 👍

There was originally just one test day scheduled for the end of May, unfortunately Bailey wasn't going to be able to make that one.... but luckily for all of us, Red Lodge Karting Ltd and Club 2000 kindly added an extra test day on Friday 1st May, the day before race day, perfect! (in more ways than one! See PART 2!)

Friday test day

The weather for the test day was glorious, perfect conditions to get the kart setup right for a dry grippy track surface, Bailey was so used to corporate karts with very little grip and no 'feedback' from the track surface, that we needed time and lots of laps to find a setup that worked better for him.... but by the middle of the test day, Jeremy and Bailey had nailed it! The smoothness was there and the laptimes tumbled 👌

Saturday race day
The early forecasts were for showers in the morning, but we arrived to almost the same warm dry conditions as the test day, no adjustments needed to the kart!

Practice

Jeremy prepped the kart and Bailey headed out on track, straight away he looked smooth and comfortable, so much happier working well with the kart setup, only 3 tenths off the fastest kart 👍

Heat 1

Bailey's first random grid position was 3rd, a pretty good clean start saw Bailey move up to 2nd in the first few corners, he looked so neat and tidy and put the leader under pressure straight away. On the 3rd lap Bailey moved cleanly into the lead and settled in to a nice rhythm, pulling out a gap of 2.4 seconds to win the heat!! Only 1 tenth of a second off the fastest lap time, a fantastic start to the day 👌

Heat 2

Starting further back this time, his random grid position was 6th, another good clean start and Bailey moved up to 4th in the first few corners, he had so much more confidence in the kart now, it was great to watch! Bailey settled in to a nice rhythm again and moved up to 3rd after a few laps, it then became a three kart battle for the lead! The second place kart was attacking the leader for the rest of the heat with Bailey looking for a chance to get past them both, but they all kept it clean and they couldn't get past the leader, all three crossed the finish lined nose to tail, only 7 tenths of a second between the winner and Bailey in 3rd, with Bailey posting the fastest lap of the heat! Fantastic racing 👍

Heat 3

Starting 4th this time, again a great clean start for Bailey saw him move up to 2nd in the first few corners, he sensibly tucked in behind the leader and they started to pull out a small gap back to 3rd. Unfortunately on the 5th lap, a kart had broken down near the Senna S and the yellow flags were out, as the leaders approached, Bailey slowed a little more than the lead kart and 3rd place kart through the yellow flag zone. Bailey works as a Marshall and driver coach at Youngstarz, so he knows all too well the importance of slowing down to a safe pace whilst Marshalls are on the side of the track dealing with any incident, once he resumed racing after the green flag, he had dropped back from the leader and 3rd place had almost caught him up, so he didn't have enough laps left to catch up with the leader again and crossed the line in 2nd. After the heat, unfortunately Bailey was given a 5 second penalty for being out of formation in the rolling start, the kart on the inside of Bailey at the start was suffering from engine trouble so had dropped right back and left a large gap in front of him, Bailey saw the opportunity to move to the inside safely into the gap but unfortunately it was just before the start line, it wasn't a dangerous move in this instance but the Start Marshall has to go by the rules. This dropped Bailey's finishing position to 5th.

Final

Bailey lined up 2nd on the grid after 3 good results in the heats. Another good clean start and the front 4 pulled away slightly from the pack. Bailey found a nice rhythm again but wasn't able to challenge the leader and he crossed the line in 2nd place 🏆

A fantastic haul of points for the day means he jumps back up to 3rd in the Championship standings, but most importantly he now feels so much more comfortable and confident in the kart 👌 we are all really looking forward to the next round!

Bailey and his family would like to thank all their sponsors, especially their new sponsor J & M Roofing and Scaffolding Limited 👍
