Almost there on my 68 2-door resto, aligning (original) doors is one of the last jobs. They're nearly there, gaps are good but they stick out 1/4" at the back and it's driving me up the wall. The trial fit was great, almost too good to be true, the issue has been after I fitted the door seals (the black rubber type, not the coloured sort, although I have some of those too. Thanks in anticipation!

Another job done - and a daunting one, too! After much struggle, I've managed to get the new plastic "chrome" strip in the windscreen rubber seal. It's more than just a cosmetic addition, it ensures the main rubber seal sits flush with the windscreen and effectively locks it in place. Pleased to get that out of the way!

That's the passenger door windows, winding mechanism and door catch gubbins installed. The quarterlight was a right pain but everything now works, which is the most important thing. I'm very pleased with the shut lines, as Minor doors were notoriously ill-fitting. When we first got the car, neither door closed properly, they were hanging off the body at a jaunty angle. The A-posts were rotten at the bottom and the hinge panels completely gone, so I replaced them with new metal. It's amazing to think that what was once a giant breeding ground for tin-worm is now completely solid.

After a month off working on CPT due to visiting Canada and Alaska (!), this week I finally got back to grips with the list of outstanding jobs on the car. The rebuilt heater, complete with new matrix, has gone back in, the gearbox filled with oil (20w/50) and the cover screwed back in place - a somewhat heftier job than I imagined!
Next came a good dose of Dinitrol rust preventer around the inner sills and the covers bolted in place.
I've now aligned both the doors and will reinstall the various gubbins over the coming days. Finally, I installed a heat shield above where the silencer goes, followed closely by the exhaust system itself.
That 'to do' list is getting shorter.....

Today's progress - the clutch linkage successfully installed (a slightly fiddly job) and the prop shaft back on. That's all the mechanical components back on the car, although there's still a huge amount of other work to complete.

That bit of reconstruction when you've reinstalled the engine and gearbox, then neither my friend Harry nor myself could remember whether we put the clutch thrust bearing in. Only one solution, removw the gearbox and take a look. Guess what? There it is, right where it should be. 🙄 Oh well, bolt the gearbox back on and put it down to experience! Doh!
BUT ... if even a couple of years ago anyone had suggested I might remove and reinstall a car gearbox on a Sunday afternoon, I'd have thought they were bonkers. But that's what I did and, despite the futility of it, I feel quite pleased with myself! (Thanks to H for helping align the drive shaft)

Front suspension, steering links and brakes set up today. It will all need to be checked but another step forward. The silicone bushes put up a proper battle but went in eventually.
