Full rebuild and tweak for this little 085 box. Surprisingly, this was in decent condition internally .

With everything out and checked it was full strip/clean and blast to the casings, all bearings and gears off the shafts and built onto new pinion.
Ring gear off and bolted to the quaife, full mains and preload to case.
Funky motorsport end case, stainless inspection cover and speedo blank to finish the main build.

The wilwood clutch cylinder was originally going to be a head s watch but some mounts and a bit of machining got it to sit nicely in the case allowing some adjustment if needed.

A cracking little build and a nice finish considering there was no case coating 👍🏻

Blew the side of the pump out trying to clear debris. Found an m8 bolt and an 02j tower push clogged inside the bugger😖

So that’s why 3rd was a right b’stard 🤦🏼‍♂️

Even new parts can be an issue, unfortunately it took a practice day to find out that the laser welding holding on the synchro taper had failed preventing proper engagement.

It took a bit of looking to as, on the bench, it looked okay !

Another gear popped in, built up and ready to go.
( manufacturer is getting a call although I know they’ve already changed their design 👍🏻)

This is my own car which I bought as a Cat N requiring a bonnet and bumper.
Wheels/tyres and brakes all recently changed. Aircon gas recharged. Recent MOT. Drives perfectly and the bodywork is stunning !!!
Interior is absolutely mint. No wear/stains or marks. Half leather has zero wear . I don’t smoke or have children so it’s unmolested 😂

Old Mg gearbox in for an inspection/rebuild. Has a funky noise coming off throttle.

Not done many of these but luckily parts are readily available and cheap!!!!

Right away, looking in the main case there’s a random thrust washer just sitting there looking back, giving us a cheery wave 😂 the gear cluster has take a little bit but will dress back ok.

Main shafts apart and checked, new main input shaft bearing and needle bearings, new synchros, new seals/gaskets throughout, new thrust washer, new overdrive filter and solenoid O ring seals . Input shaft shimmed/preloaded , case internals cleaned and journals polished. A quick degrease and assemble as required.

02m parts availability.

An example of a good and bad 02m hub sleeve. The rings have worn on one side causing the sleeve to grind against the gear. Eventually it’ll burr up soo bad it’ll prevent the hub sliding in the ‘good’ direction 👎🏻

Problem is, both hub assembly AND rings are now obsolete from VW/TPS.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) the only way around this is an either later gear/hub assembly or finding good used parts!
