It's been an 'Excel'lent week here at Maidstone Sports Cars, with three Lotus Excels arriving for a variety of work.

From routine servicing to more involved mechanical jobs, it's always great to see these underrated grand tourers getting the attention they deserve. The Lotus Excel may not grab the headlines like an Esprit, but it's a fantastic car with a loyal following, and we love to see them!

Due to a substantial increase in the cost of Genuine Lotus oil filters for Rover K-Series engines, Maidstone Sports Cars has made the decision to switch to a high-quality OE-specification aftermarket oil filter.

To put the increase into perspective, the Genuine Lotus filter has risen from £12.69 + VAT to £26.33 + VAT — an increase of over 100%.

Rather than passing this cost directly on to our customers through higher service prices, we've decided to switch to a carefully selected OE-quality aftermarket oil filter that meets our standards for quality, reliability and engine protection.

We believe our customers shouldn't have to pay double for an oil filter simply because it arrives in a Genuine Lotus box.

This change allows us to continue delivering the high-quality servicing you expect, while keeping running costs as sensible as possible.

1985 Audi ur Quattro comes in for an MOT and a water leak. After investigation, it was found that the original coolant hoses had split and the main radiator core had excessive corrosion.

The decision was made that rather than replace with a new aluminium radiator, we could preserve the original style by having it re-cored. While it was apart, we also removed the fan cowling, shot blasted and repainted in black. Once radiators arrived back, new black silicone hoses fitted to ensure the car would carry on for many years to come.

In from the USA, this Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special arrives to begin a bespoke restoration job.

The body was in a poor state, so the decision was made to have the bodyshell soda blasted (credit to .uk).

New product alert! We had a Lotus Evora GT410 come in with a coolant leak, which was coming from the plastic end tanks on the original radiator. As the car was only 7 years old, we thought rather than replace with another original radiaotr, prone to crack, we would have a new all aluminium raditator designed and built
