PDI = Potential Driving Instructor, and MUST display a PINK badge

All instructors start off as a Potential Driving Instructor (also known as a trainee instructor, PDI), once they have passed a DBS check and been approved by the DVSA to continue the training process. So we fully understand the legal process and quality of training thats required and needed to be delivered to PDIs.
The pass rate is relatively low and only approximately 1 in 3 will pass the final exam.
DVSA figures show that In 2024 - 2025 11,749 part 3 exams were taken with a pass rate of 29.7%
2025 -2026 is currently showing a pass rate of 28 -29%
With such a low pass rate, its imperative that you are getting the correct and adequate training. That is why we have produced a training structure, that we believe will absolutely maximise your chances of success.
We are seeing so many PDIs (Trainees) that are not receiving sufficient or adequate training, coming thru and are asking for help. Big national recognised brands, to other smaller companies are not giving the training or support that PDIs believe they are signing up for.
Some helpful tips and advice:
Have you been seen the adverts claiming you can earn in excess of 50k? Whilst working less hours and a offering a better work-life balance? To be honest, the potential to earn 50k a year is there, but you will be highly likely working every hour you are awake. Then you will have to take out expenses. Sometimes thats about £200 - £250 a week just for a car (no fuel) even if you are on holiday or ill. Also not forgetting income tax and NI.
• Ensure you read your contract thoroughly. Some contracts come with a tie in of anything ranging from about 6 months to 2+ years.
• Some may offer free training, but then may tie you into a 1-3 year contract. Work out what you will be paying each week/month/year and see what the totals will amount to.
• Have they said they will guarantee to provide you a steady flow of pupils?
• Ensure that all training you do is logged and registered. If you are not receiving your training, ask why and when is the next session. Have a trace of all communications, (email/texts/WhatsApp) especially with regards to your training. If you haven't had your training, DON'T just sign it off. There will be no comebacks as you are signing a legal document.
• Shop about. Speak to other training providers. Ask about their T&Cs. What cost, tie-ins are involved. Will they provide you with a vehicle if yours breaks down? Some will have in the small print, *if one is available. Yet you will still be paying the full franchise fee.
• How much training is online? (ZOOM, etc)
• Is your trainer local? Are they at hand to help and assist you? Can they actually fit you in for training?
If the training is poor, you are under no legal obligation to follow thru with the tie in or contract.
The contracts MUST be fair, and you are highly advised to seek legal advice if in ANY doubt.
