Drag racing cars taught us how to go fast. Twenty-plus years of building engines taught us how to make them last. The Bimini Cup is going to test both.
Miami to Bimini and back, nonstop. October 24. The first time this race has been run since 2009.
In reality it’s about 80 statute miles wide open throttle, and it plays out more like a 12-hour road race than a drag strip. This isn’t a potato chip with a ton of HP on a flat lake at the Ozarks. When the Gulf Stream stands up, every wave is a decision. How hard can you push the hull? How much can you lean on the engines? One bad call and you’re looking at an outside motor coming off, a lower unit with a hole in it, or worse.
We’re running the Freeman 42 on quad Mercury Racing 500Rs, representing USP Marine with Preferred Marine on Board. All outboard center consoles are broken into classes by size this year. The range is wide for now, but I expect more boats and tighter classes in the years ahead. What do you think ?
