Wow, what a day today turned into!

Our morning wanders took in the Olympic track, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the commemoration of the day Greece was liberated from the N***s - and the weather gods smiled on us for our afternoon trip up the Acropolis, with dark storm clouds showing us the Parthenon and Temple of Athena in rare and incredible light. 23,000 very worthwhile steps.

And, of course, there were many street cats. :-)

We didn't know it, but 12 October is the anniversary of Greece's liberation from the N***s in WWII. So it was an absolute bonus to stumble upon the ceremony and memorial wreath-laying this morning!

Cats and quirkiness and flea markets and another 20,000 steps and more cats and the Acropolis from a distance and more cats and a whole alley of Halloween craziness and sleepy little Anafiotika. And cats.

21,000 steps today, taking in so many amazing sights: street cats all over the place including the ruins of Hadrian's Library; the astonishing discipline and control of the Evzones, or Presidential Guard, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; Varakios Central Market and, next to it, the maddest bazaar you've ever seen with everything higgledy-piggledy in every corner; quirky and musical moments on the streets of Plaka, and more besides. Did I mention the street cats?
