The beautiful gardens beside Palma Cathedral have a royal past.

s’Hort del Rei - “The King’s Garden” - dates back to the early 14th century, when this area formed the royal gardens of the Kings of Mallorca and the neighbouring Almudaina Palace.

And they weren’t simply decorative. Fruit trees, flowers and vegetables were grown here to help supply the royal household.

Today, the gardens you walk through have a different appearance. They were extensively redesigned in the 1960s, combining Mallorcan garden traditions with influences from historic Spanish-Muslim gardens, including Granada’s Generalife.

Just steps away stands La Seu, Palma’s magnificent Gothic cathedral, making this one of the most fascinating corners of Palma to explore on foot.

How do the parking colour codes work in Mallorca? 🚗🇪🇸

In short: White spaces are generally free, blue spaces are paid parking, green spaces are usually restricted or reserved for residents, and yellow markings indicate parking restrictions. Always check the nearby signs, as parking rules can vary between municipalities.

If you’re hiring a car in Mallorca, understanding the different parking colours can save you time and help you avoid an unwanted fine.

⚪ WHITE = Free parking
White-marked spaces are generally free to use. Always check nearby signs in case there are additional restrictions.

🔵 BLUE = Paid parking
Blue zones, often called Zona Azul or ORA, are regulated parking areas. Check the signs or parking meter for payment requirements, operating hours and maximum parking times.

🟢 GREEN = Restricted / resident parking
Green spaces are commonly used for resident or permit-controlled parking. The exact rules vary depending on the municipality, so always check the signs before leaving your car.

🟡 YELLOW = Parking restrictions

🛵 Can I wear flip-flops or sandals while riding a motorcycle or scooter in Spain?

If you’re visiting Mallorca or anywhere in Spain, there’s an important new road rule you should know about. 🇪🇸

From 1 October 2026, riders and passengers on motorcycles and mopeds must wear closed footwear that fully covers the foot. Flip-flops and open sandals won’t meet the new requirement.

🧤 Protective gloves will also become compulsory for riders and passengers when travelling on interurban roads.

💶 Breaking these requirements can result in a €200 fine.

We are a small, established car hire company looking for a reliable, responsible and motivated individual to join our team for the upcoming season.

The position will initially be part-time, with the opportunity for additional hours as the main season gets underway. Working days and hours will be flexible to suit the needs of the business. No evening work is required.

Key Responsibilities

The role will include:

Preparing, cleaning and checking vehicles prior to customer hire
Delivering and collecting vehicles to and from the airport
Providing general assistance with the day-to-day operation of the business
Providing basic breakdown assistance when required
Ensuring vehicles are maintained to a high standard and are ready for customers

Requirements

Applicants must:

Be over 25 years of age (for insurance purposes)
Hold a full Spanish or EU driving licence
Be legally resident in Spain
Be fluent in English and some Spanish
Be reliable, responsible and organised
Have a good eye for detail and take pride in maintaining high standards
Be comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team
Have a professional and friendly approach when dealing with customers
Previous experience in the car hire, automotive, tourism or customer service sectors would be an advantage, but is not essential for the right candidate.
