Did you know most OE coil springs have a colour code?
If you’ve ever noticed a splash of paint on a vehicle's coil spring, it’s not just for decoration! It is actually a built-in system designed to help you select the exact replacement part.
Here is what you need to know about spring colour codes:
🟡 Direct Match: In many cases, this colour code links directly to the vehicle manufacturer’s original part number. This makes finding the correct spare part incredibly accurate.
🟡The Exception: Sometimes, the code only references a specific spring manufacturer, meaning it won't line up with the vehicle brand's official part number.
🟡The Advantage: More and more vehicle manufacturers list springs in their catalogues only by colour code. This gives mechanics a foolproof shortcut. If a front axle spring with a red marking fails, the mechanic simply orders two new front springs with that exact red mark.
By using this simple and safe system, there is no need to dig through engine codes, equipment levels, or suspension lines. Best of all? Those colour markings are incredibly durable and usually remain clearly visible on the used spring even after years on the road!
