BMW X5 G65 chip tuning: X5 40 or X5 40d first?

The new G65 X5 just dropped and we have not had it on the dyno yet, but we are already planning the runs. Two inline sixes, two very different characters.
X5 40 runs the B58 petrol with 394 HP and 580 Nm, the same powertrain we know from the 740 facelift (G70 LCI). We have squeezed serious extra power out of the B58 before, so the potential here looks strong.

X5 40d brings 308 HP and 650 Nm from the B57 diesel, quite possibly one of the last of its kind. A torque monster basically built for tuning.
Our RaceChip GTS5 adds more power and torque without touching the factory hardware and stays fully reversible and we cannot wait to dial it in on the G65 once one hits our bench.

RaceChip tune | Land Rover Defender L663 D250 AWD🔥

We basically had James Bond’s car on the test bench. Well, almost. After all, the Defender L663 made its grand entrance in *No Time to Die*. This British car certainly has character and presence. What was missing until now was the right kind of punch under the bonnet. That’s exactly what we’ve provided.

Let’s take a closer look at the figures we achieved on the test bench:

Before: 249 HP 570 NM
After: 287 HP 636 NM
The increase is: +38 HP +66 NM

We took the new 2026 Land Rover Defender L663 D250 into our workshop, validated the stock figures on the dyno, and built a custom map for it.

Result with the RaceChip GTS 5: 287 hp and 636 Nm, up from 249 hp and 570 Nm. That is +38 hp and +66 Nm. The 60 to 120 km/h pull dropped from 8.75 to 7.89 seconds, measured on the road with Dragy.

Mercedes C 180 MildHybrid 170 HP stock. Respectable? Sure. Exciting? Not quite.
We put it on the dyno, plugged in the RaceChip GTS 5, and walked away with 208 HP and 320 Nm. Same engine. Same car. Very different story.

Euro 7 was supposed to be the end of the line for the S58. It isn't.

Starting November 2026, the new emission norm forces makers to either cap power outputs or kill engines entirely. Naturally aspirated sixes are already gone. Big bore V8s are getting strangled. The S58 in the M2, M3 and M4 was supposed to be next.

Then BMW dropped M Ignite. A pre-chamber ignition system that was originally engineered for diesel engines. A second spark plug and coil sit in a tiny chamber above the main combustion chamber. They fire a pilot flame that ignites the rest of the cylinder more efficiently. The result is significantly lower fuel use under full load, and the S58 keeps all its power.

For us at this is the best news of the year. The stays. And we keep tuning it in the M2, M3 and M4. More power, smarter combustion, every bolt where BMW put it.
