AI is evolving faster than the way we talk about it.
Becoming an AI‑empowered company is not about adding more tools. It’s about enabling people and processes to create real, measurable value with AI.
And that’s where the real challenge lies: technology moves fast; social dialogue doesn’t. If we want AI to scale responsibly, we need to actively close that gap.
AI creates value in real use cases, real work environments, and real teams. But transformation is not one-dimensional. With ai:conomics, we take a dual perspective: looking at business and organizations, as well as people and their work. Both matter, and they are not the same.
This is also where the “employability paradox” becomes visible: while organizations must invest in skills at scale, responsibility cannot rest on individuals or companies alone. Shaping the future of work is a shared task.
Last week in Maastricht, at the 40-year celebration of ROA at Maastricht University, we discussed exactly this at the intersection of science, policy, and business. Together with Maastricht University, we are accompanying our M365 Copilot rollout with surveys and interviews to generate scientific evidence for responsible AI scaling.
We’re on a strong path, working with partners across academia, policy, and industry to better understand, shape, and scale AI in a way that creates real value. For business and people alike.
