The 202 series is the successor to the 190 series, is the first to bear the name Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and debuted in May 1993. Alongside the regular C-Class models with petrol and diesel engines up to (193 HP)🐎 the C36 ///AMG, presented at the IAA in Frankfurt/Main in September 1993
was introduced
The top-of-the-line model in the series is powered by a 206 kW (280 HP) six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3,606 cc and four-valve technology, which ///AMG developed from the proven 3.2-liter engine. The Affalterbach-based engineers extracted a maximum torque of 385 Nm from the inline-six. Series production of the C36 ///AMG began in early 1994, with a starting price of 95,450 DM
Inside the C36 ///AMG, available only as a sedan, four power windows, a front armrest, rear headrests, and a special instrument cluster with an outside temperature display, black dials, and gray bezels complemented the sporty features. Matching the instrument cluster, the sport leather steering wheel and the automatic transmission selector lever with a C36 ///AMG badge were finished in a two-tone design. From the outside, the sporty sedan is recognizable by its //AMG styling II, the rectangular twin exhaust pipes, and the one-piece AMG light-alloy wheels measuring 7.5 J x 17 ET 35 at the front with 225/45 R 17 tires and 8.5 J x 17 ET 30 at the rear with 245/40 R 17 tires. Technically, it features an infrared remote control for the central locking system, cruise control, an upgraded braking system, and an ///AMG sport suspension.
In September 1997, the C 43 ///AMG with its 225 kW (306 HP) 4.3-liter V8 engine and five-speed automatic transmission, replaced its six-cylinder predecessor, the C 36 ///AMG, of which 5,221 units had been built by June 1997
