Not every Porsche bargain wears a 911 badge.

The first-generation Panamera S Hybrid combined a supercharged V6, electric assistance, rear-wheel drive, and Porsche handling in a package that was surprisingly efficient for its time. Ford thought the Torino Talladega was fast. The King Cobra was supposed to be unstoppable.

Ford's goal was simple: build a stock car capable of topping 200 mph and beating Chrysler's winged monsters at their own game.

Only three prototypes were ever built before NASCAR's rule changes effectively killed the project, turning the King Cobra into one of Ford's rarest and most fascinating what-could-have-beens.

Short for Grand National Experimental, the GNX was the final evolution of Buick's turbocharged Regal and a shock to the performance world. Officially rated at 276 horsepower, many believe the real figure was much higher. With help from ASC/McLaren, a larger turbocharger, upgraded intercooler, and sinister all-black styling, the GNX became one of the quickest American cars of its era and a legend that still commands respect today.
