Rainy season is here! Here are some tips for driving in the rain to help keep yourself and others safe.
1. Please be mindful of others—always stay alert and watch for puddles, especially near sidewalks where pedestrians are walking. Slow down to prevent splashing them, or, if safe, change lanes to avoid it altogether.
2. Turn on your low-beam headlights, even during the day. This improves visibility for you and makes you more visible to other drivers.
3. More stopping distance: Wet roads require more time to stop, so give yourself extra space between cars.
4. Increase the distance between your vehicle and the one ahead.
5. Good tire tread helps channel water away, and proper pressure ensures optimal traction.
6. Sudden or hard braking on wet surfaces can cause skidding. Brake slowly and in advance when preparing to stop.
7. Rain increases humidity inside the car, which can fog up your windows. Use the defroster and climate control to keep windows clear.
8. Slow down before making turns to avoid skidding or losing control, as wet roads make handling more difficult.
