A meeting of minds and bodies, The Garage strives to close the gaps in the dance community by giving artists the opportunity to connect on an accessible common ground and environment. Founded by seven Toronto-based dance artists in April 2013, The Garage is a collective and community with a common goal: to support one another in each individualโs artistic exploration and growth. We aim to create a
safe, supportive, and healthy environment in which artists of diverse backgrounds can share, learn, research, develop and discuss various skills and ideas. A meeting of minds and bodies, The Garage strives to close the gaps in the Toronto dance community by giving artists the opportunity to connect on an accessible common ground, both inside and out of the studio. Building from weekly sessions of play, conversation, and discovery, The Garage invites the greater community to engage in its artistic exchange via showings and other special sharing events. Weekly sessions take place every Wednesday afternoon from 12-2pm. Each week we invite a different Garage member to lead us through a session. This can range from a specific class structure you may be working on, choreographic exploration, specific artistic research, or simply a warm up. We ask that each of our members put into The Garage as much as they receive. While prioritizing exchange, as a community we gather weekly to grow and learn from one another, and the artistic challenges that each of us may face. Membership fees* are as follows:
$30.00 per session (Fall session and Spring session)
*all fees go directly towards compensation for all rentals of current and future studio space. When budget permits, weekly session leaders are compensated for their efforts. www.thegarageto.com
