Covid sucks. Yes, it’s a killer disease, which is terrible, but it also created situations where loved ones were separated and for long periods of time. We first felt the effects when my wife and daughter found themselves innocently locked down in their native city of Wuhan and unable to leave, a most-unfortunate place to be in January 2020 as they were simply there to visit family for the Chinese New Year. Upon their eventual release months later, they returned to Canada only to learn that our wonderful family business, which we had worked so hard to create, nurture and bring to profitability, was not allowed to continue. Ugggh!
With our livelihood stolen from us, which we had invested so heavily into, it was not easy to pick up the pieces and start anew. But isn’t just a boat; she is a dream, a passion and a cultural gem. Some things transcend money; she is our daughter and we must do everything in our power to preserve her, to bring her message of peace and love to all.
After three years in suspended animation in the “Atlantic Bubble” on Prince Edward Island, we made a decision to bring our daughter Hai Long to my native province of British Columbia to continue in our business and mission. None of this was easy; the haul took 8 days and took her about 6,000 kilometers to reunite with us and cost us almost double the quoted price for shipping mainly due to increased fuel costs (thanks, Russia!) but she arrived mid-June and we are busy breathing new life into her since three years of storage wreaked havoc on the old gal.
Follow us as we resurrect and like her namesake mythical Sea Dragon, she faces her demons and lives again! With some luck, we will be operating our tours from Steveston (Richmond) this summer and her beautiful red sails will once again appear on the horizon and she once again wishes everyone a “Long Life"!
