Every community needs a place where curiosity is encouraged, stories are shared and neighbours come together—and in Ryley, the McPherson Municipal Library is that place.

Founded in 1975 through the efforts of school librarian Harriet Ruddy, the library has grown from its beginnings as part of the local school library into an important resource for the Ryley community. It provides access to books, movies, educational opportunities and programming, while honouring the community’s history and the voices of its elders. Through initiatives such as its Summer Reading Program and partnerships with organizations like Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Community Adult Learning Program (CALP), the library continues to create a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for learning and connection.

With support from the Claystone Community Grant, the Ryley McPherson Municipal Library can continue offering the resources and programming that bring people together and strengthen the community.

Today we’re highlighting a valued community organization with a long history of service, remembrance and connection: the Royal Canadian Legion Ryley Branch No. 192.

Established in 1947 and located across from the Beaver County Office, the Ryley Legion has long served as a gathering place and service club for the village and surrounding communities. The branch welcomes new members at any time; military experience or family military connections are not required. Through its annual Poppy Campaign, Remembrance Day services at Ryley School and the Legion Cenotaph, community potluck, and grave-decorating service held each Labour Day weekend, the Legion continues to honour veterans while bringing residents together.

Claystone Waste is proud to recognize the Royal Canadian Legion Ryley Branch No. 192 as a Claystone Community Grant recipient, supporting the programs, events and traditions that have made the Legion an important part of Ryley for generations.

📣 Claystone Waste is proud to bring you our bi-annual Large Item Pickup Program—free of charge for all Beaver County residents!
This is your chance to clear out those big items and dispose of them responsibly before winter sets in.

📆 Pickup Dates by Community:
- Holden, Oct 9-15
- Bruce, October 9-15
- Tofield, October 16-22 with Curbside Pick Up October 20: large items must be on the curb as Claystone staff will not be able to enter private property. Special requests for pick up due by October 16, for pick up on October 20.
- Ryley, October 23-28
- Viking, October 23-28 with Curbside Pick Up October 29: large items must be on the curb as Claystone staff will not be able to enter private properties.

⚠️ Note: Residents must pre-pay for Freon removal at the town or village office and attach the proof of payment sticker to the front or side of the appliance.

Ever wonder what happens to your yard waste and kitchen scraps after they go into the green bin?

At Claystone’s compost facility in Ryley, turning that waste into healthy soil amendment takes a lot of work!

In our newest Trash Talk blog post, we look at the massive machine that makes it all happen: the compost windrow turner.

This machine drives over our long compost piles to mix the material and add oxygen. Not only does this help the waste break down into nutrient-rich soil amendment, but it also prevents bad smells from forming.

It is just one of the ways we work hard to be a good neighbour and keep the air clean in Beaver County.

Today we’re highlighting a very important initiative that is helping our youth navigate the world with greater awareness and care: Roots of Empathy.

Roots of Empathy was established to break intergenerational cycles of violence, and its impact on our local students is both profound and measurable. Independent research confirms that participants show a substantial rise in prosocial behaviors and empathy, along with a decrease in the aggression and bullying that too often impact our schools. By investing in these emotional foundations today, we are ensuring a stronger, more supportive community for years to come.

Claystone Waste is proud to support Roots of Empathy with this grant, providing the resources needed to keep this life-changing programming active in our region.
