Masonry is something that is extremely misunderstood as most assume because it is solid that it is for life and this is miles from the truth. When you have a structure getting beat upon by all sorts of weather how can it be a fact ? From the winds and rain and heat and snow and freeze and thaw cycles anything would slowly weaken to this sort of pounding.

When we feel down we make an appointment to see our doctors or when our cars act up we take it to a mechanic but never think of preventive maintenance on our biggest investment, our homes. Many major costs can be avoided if we follow the same principle as we do with all the other appointments we make in advance for our lives.

Keep in mind finding a contractor is a job by itself as tradesmen are far, far from equal. When a tradesmen tells you he can take care of your problem the next day or very soon those are red flags as a good contractor is booked for months in advance and many times those that can start soon can because they are not busy for a reason. If you go to a restaurant and no one is there I would wonder about the service and the product.

Many times a client will have a broken flue liner that needs to be replaced and unfortunately many masons will state the entire chimney needs to come down to the flashing to make the repair and this is absolutely not the case. As you can see in this photo we have made the replacement of a new flue liner by only removing enough brick that allows us access.

There is always exceptions but after 4 decades in business we do this for a living and not just a hobby. Masons are far from equal.
