ThunderCat drag parts are starting to come alive 👀🔥

First side is finished, installed, and the fitment came out dead perfect. Super lightweight, clean fit, and built specifically with drag racing in mind.

This isn’t just repairing old plastic. The originals were used to build proper tooling so we can start producing lightweight composite replacements that actually fit the way they should.

One side down. Other side is next.
Less weight. Better parts. More thunder and more cat.

This was a fun repair!

Ski locker hatch came in with a large section completely broken out, along with a crack running well into the surrounding panel.
The damaged area was rebuilt structurally from both sides, then the original molded non-skid texture was replicated over the repair. The customer chose to keep the repair budget focused on structure and function rather than having the gelcoat custom color matched, so the final shade isn’t a perfect cosmetic match, I used the closest tint I had mixed up to bring it into the same family of white
Still a pretty dramatic save compared to where it started.

Something a little different through the shop.
This composite mast/CompTip had a pretty serious crack through the laminate and into the core, so there was a fair bit more going on than what you could see from the outside.

Cut out the damaged material, rebuilt the core with high-density foam, scarfed everything back, then rebuilt the laminate with S-glass and uni reinforcement under vacuum.
Post cured, refinished, and test fitted the sail track afterward to make sure everything still fit the way it should.

First one of these to come thru the CTC shop. Boats, skis, sleds, mast parts... composites are composites once you understand the materials, load paths and layup schedule 🤙

This Sunfish rudder came in with cracks running through and around the heavily loaded mounting points, with a few fractures extending right out toward the edges.

The cracks were ground out wide and filled with MGS and milled glass, then prepped for the structural laminate work. The surrounding laminate was generously tapered back and rebuilt with Sglass and epoxy while maintaining the original rudder thickness and profile. After the structural work was complete, everything was reshaped and faired smooth, sealed with InterProtect 2000E and refinished in VC Performance Epoxy.

Definitely one of those smaller parts that's actually a surprisingly involved repair. Structurally solid and looking considerably better than when it showed up.

This Waverunner came off its dock and ended up with a pretty beat up hull from some unwanted contact with the rocks.

Lots of gouges, chips and damage through the original finish, especially along the keel and lower hull.

Everything damaged was ground out, repaired and faired back into shape before the hull was fully prepped, sealed with Interlux 2000E epoxy barrier coat and refinished in black Endura. A few smaller areas on the upper section were repaired and blended as well, then everything was polished back out.
Definitely one of those jobs where the before pictures make the finished result that much better 😂

Back to looking like a new unit.

Last time I posted this thing it was basically a teaser with one wheel leaned against it.

Now it’s on 30s, new wheels, rad relocate, snorkels cleaned up, clutch kit, new seat cover done in house, carbs cleaned, vents fixed, and a pile of little things I found the hard way.

Still not done, but she’s back from the bog and acting ignorant again.

All work was done at the CTC shop.
