When to replace your chain, this is something we get asked a lot and here is the perfect example! Your chain and cassette will wear down at the same rate which is why it’s recommended to replace a chain when it’s reached 75% wear and not 100% because that will typically mean you’ll need a new cassette as well, adding to the maintenance expenses.
The second picture shows a new chain out of the box, they typically show 25% worn out of the package, meaning that when it’s 75% worn it’s more likely to be around 50% worn.
All that to say, with normal wear and tear you can use your cassette for two chains and get years of fun out of your bike with less expense!
