Due to an Alberta-wide system outage affecting driver's licence services, our office will have adjusted hours at the end of June and beginning of July.

Please note that driver's licence services across Alberta will be impacted beginning June 28 as provincial systems undergo updates.

If you need to renew, replace, or update your driver's licence or identification card, we encourage you to plan ahead and visit us before the outage begins.

⚠️ Attention Clients – Upcoming Driver's Licence & ID Card Service Outage ⚠️

Due to a province-wide system update related to Alberta's new driver's licence and ID card program, all Alberta registry offices will be unable to process any driver's licence and identification card services from the evening of June 28 through July 1.

Road tests may still take place; however, customers who pass a road test will not be able to receive their new licence until returning to the registry on or after July 2. Until your new licence is issued, you cannot legally drive independently under the new licence class.

If you require driver's licence or ID card services, we encourage you to visit us before June 28 or after July 1.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 403-946-0261.

πŸ“’ Important Changes Coming to Alberta Driver's Licences & ID Cards

Starting July 2, 2026, Alberta driver's licences and ID cards may include:
βœ… A Canadian citizenship marker (when applicable)
βœ… Your Personal Health Number (PHN) for eligible Albertans
βœ… Enhanced security features

When applying for or renewing your licence or ID card, you'll need to provide proof that you are legally entitled to be in Canada. Canadian citizens can also provide citizenship documents to have the citizenship marker added to their card.

For your Alberta Health Number, you'll need to bring your Alberta health card (or mobile health card) along with your identification.

If your renewal is coming up, be prepared with the proper documents to help make your visit quick and easy!

Don’t forget to grab your marriage licence before the big day! πŸ₯‚

βœ… The marriage must take place within Alberta and within 90 days of getting your licence.
βœ… You’ll need proper identification β€” and possibly a couple of other documents β€” to apply.

✨ Not sure what to bring? No worries! Just give us a call at 403-946-0261 and our friendly team will help you out.

Upcoming changes for your Driver's License/ID Cards!

Changes to Alberta driver’s licences and identification cards will provide stronger protection against identity fraud and counterfeiting, as well as a more convenient way to access services.

The new design will display a Canadian citizenship marker when applicable, as well as your personal health number for eligible Albertans.

Applications and renewals cannot be done online, and original legal entitlement documents and your paper health card or mobile health care card must be brought with you to a registry.

Examples of documents include:
β€’ Canadian Birth Certificate
β€’ Canadian Passport
β€’ Permanent Resident Card
β€’ Secure Certificate of Indian Status
β€’ Canadian Citizenship Certificate
β€’ NEXUS Cards and RAST/EXPRES Cards indicating Canadian citizenship

You do not need to be a Canadian citizen to obtain a driver’s licence or ID card.
