Winter driving conditions are just around the corner. Get ready for winter by having your brakes inspected and serviced.

Time for New Brake Pads?
Disc brake pads usually have a piece of metal on them called a wear indicator. When enough of the friction material is worn away, the wear indicator will contact the disc and make a squealing sound.

Here are some other signs that it may be time for brake service:

Grinding or Growling Noise
This loud metallic sound means that you have worn down the pads completely, most likely beyond replacement. The grinding or growling noise is caused by the two pieces of metal (the disc and the caliper) rubbing together. This can score the rotors, creating an uneven surface. If this happens, your rotors will need to be replaced

This means it is time for new brake pads.

Pulling
If your vehicle “pulls” to one side while braking, it may be a sign that the brake linings are wearing unevenly. Your vehicle may need a brake adjustment.

Vibration
A vibration or pulsating brake pedal is often a symptom or warped rotors. Warped rotors can be caused by brake overheating.

TUESDAY TIP:

It is recommended that you get an Oil Change on your vehicle every 5,000 km for regular oil and every 10,000 km for synthetic oil. Checking and changing the oil is essential to keep today's engines working properly and efficiently. Check the oil level with the engine and the car parked on a flat surface.

Winter driving conditions can be hazardous due to factors such as snow and ice on the road. While it’s important that you are prepared for winter driving, it is also important that your car is up for the challenge. It is recommended that you winterize your car before the winter season to make sure your car can handle the winter road conditions.

1. Install winter wipers
2. Mount winter tires
3. Keep washer fluid full
4. Pack a winter safety kit
5. Service your vehicle regularly
6. Maintain proper tire pressure
7. Keep the gas tank at least half full
8. Keep your rear-window defroster in working order

What to Do Before You Drive

Before you get behind the wheel, it’s important to remove all snow and ice from the windshields, windows, tops, and sides of your vehicle – yes, all of it! There are two reasons for this: removing debris from all windows and the roof improves visibility, and prevents chunks of it from falling off and hitting other cars.

In addition, remember these things before getting behind the wheel in winter:
-Allow enough time to get where you need to go safely.
-Slow down!
- Allow more stopping distance. Snow and ice make it more difficult to stop. -Allow more space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
-Watch the weather. Be aware of any trecherous weather that may be headed to your area.

If the roads are just too dangerous, don't risk an accident!

Sizzling Car Care Tips To Get Your Car Summer Ready

You’re not the only one in a rush to get your body ready for summer. Your car also needs to get ready for the heat. Following your maintenance schedule can prevent your vacation from becoming a mechanical nightmare, particularly if a breakdown could have been prevented. Take your car to a certified automotive technician like for a full safety inspection at least one week before you plan to leave for vacation. If a problem is discovered, this allows enough time to have it fixed. Here are 5 sizzling tips to get your vehicle summer ready.

1. Make sure your A/C is working. Don’t wait until you’re sweating buckets to find out that your air conditioning system is broken. Make sure it’s running properly by checking the filter. If it doesn’t feel as cool as it once did, make sure to schedule a maintenance appointment with MP Automotive Repairs.

2. Check the cooling system. The number one reason that cars break down during the summertime is from engine overheating and cooling system failure. To make sure that doesn’t happen to you, first, check that there is no debris around the radiator—a blockage in air flow can lead to overheating. Make sure to check your car’s coolant levels regularly. The coolant must be replaced at least once every two years. Also, be sure to check the radiator cap before summer starts, as they tend to get cracked or damaged. *Tip: Your radiator’s coolant and water mixture should be 50:50.

3. Monitor your tire pressure. After first changing your winter tires following the long, cold months, you should check the tire pressure about once a month. Use a tire gauge to monitor your car’s tire pressure, but make sure to check them after they’ve cooled down and after the sun sets, as pressure tends to rise in higher temperatures during the day. Also, be sure to have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles.

4. Inspect your windshield wipers. Many of us will likely run into a few summer rain showers in the coming months, so it’s crucial to make sure your wipers are in tip-top shape. Because they’re made of rubber, wiper blades tend to be susceptible to higher temperatures, so make sure your blades aren’t worn-and-torn. If they are, replace them! And make sure you have enough windshield wiper fluid—things can get rough on those summer road trips, and keeping your windshield clean is a must.

5. Wash your car! This may seem like a no-brainer, but giving your car a thorough wash is absolutely necessary to prepare it for the warmer weather. During colder months, cars are more susceptible to internal damage due to the bombardment of snow, ice, salt and filth that comes with rougher terrain. Make sure your car is squeaky clean—inside and out, including the wheel wells and underbody. Keeping your car clean also prevents premature degradation of auto parts.

6. Pack as lightly as you can to avoid adding unnecessary load on your tires; this can help save some gas, too! By packing lightly, you’ll also avoid blocking the view in your mirrors while driving.

7. Following posted highway speed limits will increase your car’s fuel efficiency

8. Finally, buckle up, slow down, and have fun!

Seasonal checkup checklist

Do you change things around in your coat closet when the seasons change? Maybe move those spring jackets to the basement and dig out your boots, gloves, hat and scarf? Your car needs the same kind of attention. Consult the following checklist in the spring and again in the fall:

• Switch wiper blades.
• Change windshield washer fluid.
• Change tires.
• Change oil.
• Clean out trunk.
• Check spare tire and jack.
• Perform walk-around inspection (look for loose moldings and hoses, paint chips, scratches, etc.)

Spring Car Care Tips

Spring time is almost here and you need to get ready for the season. Here is a quick spring checklist of things that should be done to preserve your vehicle and keep it working at its best.

» Remove Winter Tires – If you don’t have winter tires, it’s still a good idea to have your tires rotated or replaced.

» Check your Brakes – Listen for signs of brake wear like squealing or screeching.

» Check Your Belts and Hoses – A slipping belt will affect the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.

» Have your battery tested. Make sure it still holds a charge.

» Wiper Blades – During the rainy season it’s important to make sure your wiper blades are working properly.

» Alternator – Test the alternator output to make sure the charging system is working well

» Exterior Clean – Wash your car and apply wax after it’s dried to preserve your vehicle’s shine. Also, make sure the underbody of your vehicle is clean. Get rid of salt build up which can lead to erosion and rust.

» Interior Clean – Vacuum the inside of your vehicle and store away your winter mats. * Change your oil according to manufacturers’ specifications.

» Top up all fluids – Windshield washer, anti-freeze, oil, power steering & transmission fluids.

» Apply Protectant – The sun can damage or crack any vinyl surface that you have in your car (dashboard, steering wheel, seats). Make sure you apply a protectant to keep this from happening.
