Can you keep driving if your brakes are squeaking?

Short answer:
Sometimes for a very short time, but it is never a good idea to ignore it! A high-pitched squeak is usually your brake pads telling you their built-in wear indicator is doing its job. If you wait until it turns into a grinding noise, you might be looking at damage to your rotors, too.
Have you heard any funny noises coming from your car lately?
