🇮🇹 LAMBORGHINI DIABLO SV — A naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V12, rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox made the SV one of the rawest Diablos of the 1990s.

The Diablo SV used Lamborghini’s 5,707 cc V12 with roughly 510 PS, sending power exclusively to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Compared with the VT, the SV abandoned all-wheel drive for a lighter, more aggressive setup, while retaining the dramatic scissor doors and low-slung Marcello Gandini-derived shape that defined the Diablo era.

Would you take the lighter rear-wheel-drive SV, or the added traction and stability of the all-wheel-drive Diablo VT?

🇺🇸 FORD SHELBY COBRA CONCEPT — A 605-hp naturally aspirated V10, rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual made Ford’s 2004 Cobra concept gloriously indifferent to restraint.

Known internally as “Daisy,” the Shelby Cobra Concept used a 6.4-liter all-aluminum V10 developed from Ford’s modular engine architecture, producing 605 hp and 679 Nm. Power went through a rear-mounted 6-speed manual transaxle, helping improve weight distribution, while the aluminum space-frame chassis kept the concept relatively light. It was conceived as a modern interpretation of the original Cobra rather than a retro copy, because apparently someone at Ford decided subtlety had already had enough opportunities.

Would you rather see a production Cobra stay faithful to this naturally aspirated V10 and manual formula, or adopt a modern turbocharged or hybrid powertrain?

🇩🇪 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 2 — Rear-mounted power, an air-cooled flat-four and decades of production made the Type 2 one of Volkswagen’s most enduring engineering designs.

By 1985, the Brazilian-built Type 2, better known locally as the Kombi, still retained the classic rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout that defined the model for generations. Its simple mechanical package, huge usable cabin and exceptionally long production life made it everything from family transport to commercial workhorse and camper. The example shown here is clearly customized, with lowered suspension, modern wheels and updated lighting, so those details should not be mistaken for factory 1985 specification.

Would you preserve a Type 2 completely stock, or build a lowered restomod while keeping the original air-cooled character?

🇮🇹 FERRARI 550 MARANELLO — A naturally aspirated front-mounted V12 and a gated 6-speed manual brought Ferrari’s flagship GT formula back to the front-engine layout in the 1990s.

The 1997 550 Maranello used Ferrari’s 5,474 cc F133A 65-degree V12, producing 485 PS and 568 Nm. Power went exclusively to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle, helping the 550 reach 100 km/h in about 4.4 seconds and a top speed of roughly 320 km/h. Beneath the elegant Pininfarina body sat a genuinely serious grand-touring chassis, because apparently Ferrari once trusted drivers with twelve cylinders and three pedals at the same time.

Would you choose the 550 Maranello’s gated manual and naturally aspirated V12 over the quicker paddle-shifted Ferrari GTs that followed?

🇩🇪 VOLKSWAGEN ID.3 NEO — Rear-wheel drive, up to 630 km of WLTP range and a major interior rethink push Volkswagen’s electric hatchback into its next phase.

The 2026 ID.3 Neo is an extensively upgraded evolution of the ID.3, retaining the MEB-based rear-wheel-drive layout while introducing a more efficient electric powertrain and three battery choices. Volkswagen quotes up to 630 km of WLTP range with the largest battery, while new features include One Pedal Driving, Vehicle-to-Load capability of up to 3.6 kW and optional Connected Travel Assist with automatic traffic-light recognition. Physical steering-wheel buttons also return, because apparently touch-sensitive controls finally exhausted everyone’s patience.

Would you prioritize the ID.3 Neo’s maximum 630 km range, or choose a smaller battery for lower weight and a potentially sharper driving feel?

🇯🇵 SUBARU WRX — A turbocharged boxer engine, permanent all-wheel drive and a manual gearbox keep this sedan tied to Subaru’s rally-bred formula.

The current WRX uses Subaru’s 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or Subaru Performance Transmission depending on specification. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive remains standard, while the chassis combines a low-mounted boxer engine with independent suspension and a wide track aimed at balancing everyday usability with predictable high-grip handling.

Would you keep the WRX with three pedals, or does the quicker-shifting automatic make more sense for a modern all-wheel-drive performance sedan?

🇺🇸 SCOUT TRAVELER — A body-on-frame electric SUV with a solid rear axle, mechanical locking differentials and serious off-road hardware is a pleasantly stubborn rejection of the crossover formula.

The production-intent Traveler is being developed with dual-motor four-wheel drive, front and rear lockers, an available front anti-roll-bar disconnect and clearance for tires up to 35 inches. Scout plans both battery-electric and Harvester range-extended versions, with projected range of up to 350 miles for the BEV and more than 500 miles for the EREV, where the gasoline engine works only as a generator rather than driving the wheels. The Mountainside treatment shown here should be regarded as a styling interpretation unless Scout confirms it as an official production package.

Would you choose the pure-electric Traveler for simplicity, or the Harvester range-extender for long-distance off-road travel?

🇺🇸 TESLA CYBERCAB — No steering wheel, no pedals and only two seats: this EV was designed around autonomous ride-hailing from the outset.

Cybercab uses Tesla’s camera-based autonomous driving system and a minimalist cabin dominated by a central touchscreen. The production vehicle offers 572 liters of rear cargo space, while Tesla’s 2026 documentation confirms that Cybercab production began in the first half of the year. Unlike adapted passenger cars used for some Robotaxi services, this platform is purpose-built around driverless operation.

Would you trust a purpose-built autonomous car with no physical driving controls, or should a steering wheel and pedals remain mandatory backups?

🇫🇷 CITROËN BX GTi — Hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension and a 125 PS 1.9-liter engine made this 1986 GTi anything but a conventional family hatchback.

The BX 19 GTi paired its naturally aspirated 1,905 cc four-cylinder with Bosch electronic fuel injection, producing 125 PS and 175 Nm. Power went to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox, while a curb weight of roughly 1,025 kg helped it reach 100 km/h in a factory-claimed 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 198 km/h.

Would you take the BX GTi’s hydropneumatic comfort and eccentric engineering over a more conventional 1980s hot hatch?

🇨🇳 GEELY E2 — Rear-wheel drive and a multi-link rear suspension give this compact EV a layout rarely seen in its segment.

Built on Geely’s GEA architecture, the E2 uses an integrated 11-in-1 electric drive and combines compact dimensions with serious practicality: a 4,135 mm body, 2,650 mm wheelbase, 375-liter rear cargo area and a 70-liter front trunk. Its cabin centers around an 8.8-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, while the liquid-cooled battery supports 30–80% fast charging in around 25 minutes on compatible versions.

For a small electric hatchback, would you rather have rear-wheel drive and multi-link suspension like the E2, or prioritize maximum range above chassis sophistication?
