Driving through flood water ⛔️
➖
Now that the roads are open and we are all driving around freely one thing that people might not be thinking about is the potential damage that can be caused by flood water to vehicles.
There are many things that can be damaged due to water on vehicles, particularly electrical components and corrosion, but a coupe of other important concerns are driveline oils, and wheel bearings.
While the air intake is obviously important that it doesn’t suck in water, All transmissions, transfer cases and differentials have breathers on them to allow pressurised air to escape, on a lot of vehicles this is what limits it’s water wading depth, a common modification for 4X4’s is to fit extended breathers with filters to increase the height of the breather to reduce the risk of getting water in the driveline oil.
The past couple of weeks I’ve been checking all driveline oils regardless of the repair I’ve been doing on the vehicle, oil actually floats/sit’s on top of water & is corrosive to metal components so any water in the vehicles driveline can cause damage to bearings and other components.
If your vehicle has been sitting in flood water or driven through flood water please get your vehicle checked out to prevent any possible issues.
If you need your vehicle inspected get in touch.
