Football South Coast and South Coast Flame Community Group reach MOU over future of the Flame.
FSC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with South Coast Flame Community Group that will ensure the continuation of the Flame and its player development pathways, including the Junior Development League (JDL).
The agreement follows a week of discussions between the organisations to find a way forward for The Flame players, coaches and families and the wider football community.
FSC acknowledges the past week has been an emotional one for everyone involved and recognises the outpouring of support for the club.
The wellbeing of the Flame players and coaches, as well as FSC staff, has been front of mind as we have worked with our partners to find a solution.
We are extremely pleased to have reached an agreement that provides a future for the Flame and greater certainty for its players, families and coaches.
The governance and long-term sustainability of the Flame have been important considerations for FSC in determining the future of the program. These issues have been a priority discussion item between FSC and the Flame board since April.
The agreement reached with South Coast Flame Community Group provides a new way forward, supporting the Flame to transition to a standalone entity with strengthened governance, financial oversight and clear accountability for its operations.
The new arrangement will also allow FSC to move forward with a renewed focus on its member clubs and strengthening player and coach development through community football.
There is still work to be done to finalise the transition, and FSC, the Flame and the Flame Community Group will continue working through the details over the coming weeks.
We recognise the strength of feeling across our football community and thank our players, families, coaches, volunteers, staff, clubs and the wider football community for their patience over the past week.
We also acknowledge the support we have received from Wollongong Wolves and the Stingrays
Where we can, we will continue to keep the community informed as further details are confirmed.
