IGV compressor intakes... now that's interesting 🤔
This rare Audi V12 Diesel runs twin Garrett GTB2260VK VNT turbochargers, each featuring an integrated IGV (Inlet Guide Vane) compressor inlet.
Unlike a conventional compressor cover, these guide vanes help condition and straighten airflow before it reaches the inducer, improving compressor stability, surge margin and overall efficiency.
OEM engineers don't add complexity without a reason, especially on a 6.0L twin-turbo V12 producing massive low-rpm torque.
Some very clever engineering hidden in what looks like an ordinary compressor cover.

Old School GT42-style turbocharger with T3 split-pulse housing in for an upgrade/birthday 🥳

But this is the interesting part🤔

You can see the external wastegate runner has been divided all the way to the gate. This is serious fabrication to keep pulse separation, from a gas dynamics standpoint once you start bleeding flow pre-turbine, you’re already disrupting pulse energy and the pressure ratio across each scroll.
So how much of that “separation” actually survives by the time it reaches the gate 400mm away?
Or are we just adding volume, surface area, and complexity after the point where it stops doing anything useful?
We’ve had some experience on this type of set up from many moons back but keen to hear if anyone has data or theories on benefits or disadvantages?

Australia’s Favourite Little Beasts🚀

Built from genuine Garrett GT2052V cores, these Stage 2 hi-flow turbochargers are upgraded with a larger modern aero turbine and billet EFC compressor, extending the turbocharger’s mass-flow capability while maintaining the strong transient response these compact VNT systems are known for.
The proven compressor and turbine package improves pressure recovery and overall airflow capacity, allowing the turbo to operate comfortably at higher boost levels while retaining excellent response.
On the Nissan Patrol ZD30 platform, this configuration has demonstrated outputs of ~300whp.
