Recently we got a call for a VW Transporter that the customer was struggling to get reverse and 5th gear. After a quick diagnosis we found the culprit, 3 worn bushes, 2 worn washers and o rings.

A previous hack repair had been made, drilled out a balljoint and added a bolt to physically stop the linkage from popping off a lever, but after installing new bushes, washers and a quick adjustment to the linkages, this VW shifts gears like a brand new van.

🔥 FROM SIX TO V8: The Ultimate AU Fairmont Wagon Transformation! 🔥

At Gippsland Auto Solutions, we absolutely love a build with a story—and this one is an absolute beauty.

Our customer brought us a stunning, immaculate Series 3 Ford AU Fairmont wagon. The body and interior were in pristine condition, but it was missing that V8 rumble.

The solution? A donor AU XR8 ute. Now, the ute's body had definitely seen better days (it was well beyond saving), but underneath, the driveline was practically brand new!

In just 3 days, we pulled off a massive heart transplant:

• Performed a complete swap, stripping both engines and all model-specific gear.

• Transferred the V8 engine, transmission, air conditioning lines, power steering lines, and wiring.

• Paired the V8 ECU seamlessly with the Fairmont wagon’s factory electronics with Ford specific software.

The Result?

A gorgeous sleeper wagon that roars to life like a factory-built V8 cruiser. It drives, handles, and feels exactly like it just rolled off the Ford assembly line back in the day, only with the 200kw Tickford handbuilt engine it deserves, not the 175kw slug the Fairmont could be optioned with when new.

We recently headed out to a client whose Mitsubishi Triton was struggling under the weight of its steel tray and canopy setup. The factory leaf springs had significantly sagged, leaving the ride height uneven and the handling feeling a bit... well, sketchy.

🛠️ Tricky Electrical Gremlins? We’ve Got the Cure!

Electrical faults can be some of the most frustrating issues to deal with—especially when your car starts lying to you. We recently tackled a head-shifter on a Smart ForFour that was acting a bit possessed.

The Symptoms:

⛽ Ghost Fuel: A flashing fuel level gauge that refused to give an accurate reading.

🔔 Phantom Alarm: A persistent driver’s seatbelt warning and alarm—even when the belt was buckled tight!

The Diagnosis:

After a deep dive into the electronics, we bypassed the "parts cannon" and went straight to the source. The issue wasn't the fuel sender or the seatbelt buckle; it was dry solder joints deep inside the instrument cluster. Over time, heat and vibration cause these tiny connections to crack, leading to intermittent signals and dashboard chaos.

The Solution:

Precision Extraction: Removed the instrument cluster for bench testing.

Micro-Soldering: Located the failed joints and carefully resoldered the connections to restore a perfect circuit.

Tested & Verified: Reinstalled and cleared the faults. No more flashing lights, and finally—some peace and quiet!
