Devastated families and business owners continue to suffer at the hands of young criminals. Our business has not been spared either with damage costs amounting to more than $150,000.00 due to actions of these young offenders this past month. Our frustration is shared by police who have explained to us that their powers end once the matter goes before the court and it is really out of their hands then. How fair is this on hardworking mums and dads doing all they can to make ends meet and on family businesses who are trying to stay afloat, provide ongoing employment for their staff and also stay on top of service delivery at the highest standards. Action needs to be taken to stop the crime spree in our local communities. If nothing is done to reduce the ever increasing crimes by these young criminals, we can just foresee vigilante groups taking matters into their own hands to make these young offenders accountable. We want the state government to fix the youth crime crisis – it is not fair and it is not right. It’s become too much and we are fed up.
